Stop in for a drink.

So this is from the same Distillery that produces the Glen Fargo. Wife and I decided we wanted to drink something totally different this afternoon. Gin and ginger ale got the nod. The gin is quite floral without the overbearing pine/juniper taste some boutique gin has. Very light and crisp, lime with some kind of berries maybe? It is a potato base gin. It is yummy! It is five o clock somewhere, right?

Sounds like fun. Potato neutral spirits. Spuds have starch, amylase turns starch into fermentable sugars. The yeast eats the sugars and produces alcohol and as a by product, carbon dioxide. The spirit is distilled again and flavors are introduced into the vapor stream through a gin basket or muslin bag with juniper berries, coriander seeds, lemon zest, cucumber, almonds, rose petals and who knows what else. Gin is some interesting stuff. And yes the pine tree smell comes from the juniper berries.
