Going to replace my rockers and shafts, and can find those no issue. What I can’t find is new hold down curved spacer washers, which I know I will need, as I am missing one (found my valve train noise...). Anyway, what is everyone else using or does anyone have a set to use with one stamped style rockers and shafts? See what I am working with below, I know, it’s only one pic and not much but I just reviewed it to realize I missed something when I studied it last for the valve train noise. If one is missing I am sure more are based on well... you know what I mean. Thanks.

I would say ur right rocker is the wrong one. Then u have some more that is out of order. Is the notch on the rocker shafts down and to ur left when looking at them? Kim

I have no clue, but I am going to buy all new stock type rockers, shafts, and pushrods and start over where the last guy didn’t get it right, and threw some random condition used rockers on the build. Issue is I can’t find those shaft hold down curved washers that also serve as spacers for the rockers.

How many do you need & is it the wide or narrow hold down?
I do not know how many are missing, but wanted to replace everything so I knew what I had since I know one is missing in the pic. It was the only random pic I took with valve cover off. Based on what I am seeing on the car I am thinking I'm probably missing more. What is the difference between wide and narrow hold down that I am now going to need to understand?

Okay, let's start from the beginning. You need 5 hold downs per side, 2 wide & 3 narrow. One each of the narrow hold downs go 1, 3, 5 on the shaft & the wide hold downs go in the 2 & 4 position. From there, you need to be sure the rocker arms are oriented correctly. PM me your email address & I'll send pictures of the rocker arm orientation.

There are no "right" or "left" rocker arms on a normal "LA" small block. All the rockers are the same. So that isn't possible.

Yes, there are right and left rocker arms on stock stamped steel small block LA engines... The ball for the pushrod is biased either right or left... The ball sockets should be opposite each other for a given set of valves (they point outward)...

I disagree. You guys are thinking about big blocks. I have Comp Cams rockers on my 340, and each one looks identical. Besides, I can buy one "LA" shaft mounted rocker arm from almost anybody and there is no mention as to "right" or "left". So how does one part number from Comp, Harland Sharp. etc... fit in any position? (unlike big blocks). For example:

Small block:
Ultra Pro Magnum™ Shaft Mount Rocker Arm: Chrysler; 1.5 Ratio

Big Block:
Ultra Pro magnum™ Chrysler Replacement Shaft Rocker Arm - Left
Ultra Pro magnum™ Chrysler Replacement Shaft Rocker Arm - Right

You say these are offset L and R ? ? ?

Read up! Rocker arm assembly install

Here is a picture of a set of factory 340 rocker arms that I have.
When you look at the push rod side of the arms. You can clearly see the difference in the offset of the cups.
Note: The arms might not be assembled in their correct positions.

Reading thru these posts are helping me understand some things on my setup. Question, there is a notation that the rockers are clearanced for 340 valve springs.... what’s the difference or spring diameter that the clearance relief is critical. My 340 has rebuilt X heads so not sure what my spring diameter is or if the clearance is important in my case, but can’t let this new to me info slide in case it is important. Thanks, Casey.

Turn your engine over by hand and watch the inside of the spring retainer to see if it clears or hits on the rocker arm as the valve lifts....
