Can anyone tell me what size wrench i need for the A/C nut at the firewall ,my 1 inch wrench is to small .Thanks

Honestly take a tape measure and measure across from the opposite flat.

Does anyone have a 1966 A/C car that they can check with the correct size wrench?

You need the stationary nut(s) on the evaporator or the nut(s) on the hoses?

On the evaporator the smaller fixed nut is 3/4 and the larger one is 1 & 1/8. On the hoses, the large nuts are 1 & 1/4. Smaller nuts are 3/4 and 7/8. hope this helps

Did you remove the heater box portion from the car or trying to do it in the car?

My 66 is an original A/C car. Its long gone now but everything is still there except the blower. I replaced the heater core awhile back. I was able to separate the two. Wish I would have taken more pictures, but it wasn't too bad. I pulled the glove box and the front passenger seat. Disconnected the electric plug, and the cables, and vacuum hoses on the right side. I remember a couple of nuts or screws that held the two sides together. Seems like you should be able to remove the heater box without pulling the A/C lines.

Glad you got it. I bought the full gasket/foam kit from DMT. Didn't use the firewall gasket, but I like that he included 2 cowl to fresh air gaskets.

Glad I could help.

I emailed Jim one time a few years back for something about an order. He ended up asking about my car and asking me to send a picture. He's a great guy who loves Mopars. He certainly filled a need for gaskets of all kinds. If he doesn't already have something, and you have a usable example, he'll have you send it to him, he'll reverse engineer it, and start making them to sell. Just a great guy.

Just got off the phone with Jim ,Great guy .I have been to his shop a few yrs ago ,but now we cant cross the border or i would pick it up .

In my 1969 Dart, I had to unbolt the AC hoses to get at the heater core since the evaporator wrapped over the heater core (evaporator further from firewall). Anyway, much easier to remove the whole box that try to separate it under the dash working blind. But you will have to vent the refrigerant so have a shop do that, or insure an EPA drone isn't watching. I put a stainless screen under the cowl vent slots in my 1964 Valiant to keep those nasty leaves out. Once they go in, they won't go out the little drain holes.
