New here!
Just bougt a 73 Dart, LH23C3Bxxxxxx
But:
A registration document in Europe shows a first registration date sept 1972...
First appearance in Europe 1997.

is this something normal or something to run from?
Thanks!

I don't know about Europe, but in the U.S. care models back then were routinely release for sale before the first of the model year.

Same here. But in this case the first registration looks to be released before the build-date of the car..
Maybe a customs-worker who could not decode the vin or the buyer tricked him into a 72 car?

In the US, 1973 cars were available for sale in late august or early sept 1972

what you are seeing is a model year, not a production date

i wouldnt worry about it

but we would would like to see some pictures of this dart, that will help us tell you something about it

also, very important, what province are you from?

The 3B indicates a car built for the 1973 model year at the Hamtramck, MI. plant.

The 1973 model year started in August of 1972.

So this scenario is completely normal, thousands of 1973 model year cars were built during the latter part of the 1972 calendar year.

Another thing to look at is the serial number. If it rolled off the assy line in September the serial number would be low, like 150,000 or less in my estimate. Remember the serial number started with 100,001 for every model year

This looks to be the issue. Well, I will wait and see!

Project car without engine and tranny. planning to finish the build and put my strong 360 in. Some day far far ahead

Can You show us the registration document?

In Austria we have a so-called 'Typenschein' - and I know some cases, where the 'Typenschein' does not match the car. Mostly because the 'real' car has no valid papers and a 'Typenschein' of another similar car was 'bought', to registrate the car. There exists a 'black market' for such documents..
But I think such things are common with very old cars.

This might be something..
There are two belgian documents in french language. Dated sept 1997 first registration in Europe. They might have based it on another certificate that states the conformity. thanks all, thanks Marvin.
I called the authorities and have been told not to worry. Even an incomplete registration document in Europe is fine, as long as they can confirm the country of origin, in this case Belgium. And even better: the date in 1972 makes it less hard to swap to a v8 engine.

i’ ll keep you posted!

looks like it was recently repainted?

hopefully it has all the small parts with it, i cant imagine the trouble finding it, and then trying to ship it over seas

was it originally yellow?

where about in the Netherlands are you from?

I would think with a vin that high that it would be end of run so maybe last of the 72s?????

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Was the car manufactured in usa for shipment over seas or was it manufactured there.

I don't have the fender tag available at this moment, so an original color and wether it was for international production or not can't be determinded at this time.
I already bought the car so it will be at me in short time.

A bucketload of small parts come withe the car, propably some parts missing.

I live in the Netherlands, in a place called Borne. My working adress is in Rijssen, the Netherlands.

Thanks for all the support!

looks like the odometer is in MPH, if it were made for export, i would expect it to be in KMH
once you get the car, you can decode the fender tag, and it will be on there

on a side note, this isnt you is it?

He’s not active anymore in stand-up comedy. He released a movie last year, hilarious as ever!
Note: I did actually live next door to him in Almelo for a couple if years, nowadays he lives in De Lutte and I moved to Borne. In American standards just a a few blocks away, in our country he nearly emigrated
