What pan are you racers using to keep oil away from the crank? My superstock Duster will be ready by spring. My good friend, the previous owner, and builder, suggested a deeper pan than the Kevco unit that is currently on the car to get the oil further from the crank. We will be able to do this now as we are cutting and boxing the k frame, to be able to remove the pan without lifting the engine. This had not been done in the past because the car has been raced in stock eliminator also where this mod is not legal.

The Milodon Super Stock pan is the best set sump pan out there. Good lucking finding one, and if you do it probably won’t have the pickup.

Windage tray but due to having a stroker now I can't use one. I have been running a Moroso pan for many years now. I had a Milodon pan years ago with the center tube for the center link I actually had to have the tube lowered because my car sits so low. I went to the Moroso because having to take the center link out to remove the motor was a pain the Milodon looked cool hanging down though. S/S Dusters are cool !!! what class are you going to run? IA., JA., KA. ? What year Duster? 73 and newer I believe run KA or LA with the low compression 340 or 360, higher compression 340 I thru J. Some of the 340 Stock and S/Sers are really flying now!!! Theres a D/SA 340 Duster here in the North east that's been in the 9s, yes I am a big fan of them!

And if I do find one, I hope it is better quality than the Milodon pans I currently have. Seem to be decent designs but the build quality is poor. I've seen almost brand new ones leak at the welds.

I have a aluminum pan that looks like a copy of the Milodon pan, with a tube welded in for the drag link. It was on a engine my dad bought. It doesn't have any name or manufacturing identification. The AMX has a Charlie's Pan, that I am in the process of modifying. You might end up making your own. Or contacting one of the custom oil pan builders. Can try Stef's

The older pans are WAAAAAAAAY better. I have two SS pans, one with a static pickup and the other with a swinging pickup.

There are 2 generations of that pan. The early pans are about an inch deeper than the later pans. I called Milodon about and they said they go tired of people bitching about dragging the pan so they shortened it up a bit.

I have no idea how guys are smashing these pans. You can’t drive them over curbs and ****, but you can drive them every day and not bash them it.

EDIT: I’m going to add a second pickup to the static one. I wasn’t going to do it, but since it’s apart I’m going to. That’s one benefit to the static pickup...you can add a second line to it.

I have no experience with the older pans, I have seen 2 of the newer Milodon pans leak at welds. Neither of those pans have EVER struck anything. Regardless, not a bash Milodon post at all. If those are the hot ticket I will look for one, this of course is a race only car so curbs and speed bumps are not of concern.

i had that trick Milodon S/S pan on my 71 Duster that had the enginemasters 477 horse pump gas 318 in it.
Fortunately, had a buddy who was an elite welder modify my stock drag link to go through the hole and give me great steering clearance. Street/ strip car
Had it all to do over... would have tossed that pan...

Thanks for the info. I remember that build, I believe Adney Brown was the builders name, if memory serves me? That was the yellow engine with Magnum RT heads, and a crosswind intake.

And used what pan? I tested that pan against both the Milodon box pan without a kick out and a Stefs box pan with a full length kick out. The Stef’s pan was garbage but it equaled the SS pan in power. It was a piss poor design. The Milodon box pan was down 16 or 17 HP at 8500. That pan would at least control some oil. The Stefs junker took about 15 hours of fab and welding to get it to stop eating parts, and then is was no better in HP than the SS pan. It was just easier to get on and off in the car.

Those guys are scary, I’ll be running against them. They weren’t that fast 4 years ago when I started my build and I might just do the Super Street class instead lol

My Duster is a low compression 340 SS/JA car. The car is actually a 75, dressed as a 73 to run the 340.

Awesome !!! Thats right 75 would have been the low compression 360 , I actually had a 73 340 Duster back in the late 70s it was a street car though. If you don't mind me asking who's car was it before you acquired it?

yep, it was actually orange, just looked yellow in the magazine photos. Yep, crosswind and RT heads

Greg has had a lot of different cars all pretty fast . The Clark’s run cool Hemi cars! Good Luck with your build it’s going to be cool!
Clarke's run Max Wedge 64's in stock and super stock. Yes, I cant wait to get going with this! Been a long time goal, and a lot of perseverance!

Going to run a 904 ? Transbrake? Does car have an 8 3/4 ? Lenny at Ultimate might be able to help you out with a converter or redo yours he’s really good just a suggestion. Sorry so many questions , just curious as I really like Stock and Super/Stock !

Protrans 904, no trans brake, 8 3/4. Other than potentially boxing k frame for pan, this car is able to run in stock or super stock as it has not been tabbed, or converted to Dana 60. A simple engine swap and it is a stock eliminator car again.

8 3/4 will be fine , why carry the weight of a Dana .. Pro Trans .. doesn’t get any better than that!!!

You can run a Dana 60 in stock.
I am very new to this and see now in the book that you are indeed correct, I was mistaken on this aspect. I believe my confusion came when I had an aluminum carrier housing for the 8 3/4 and realized it could not be used in stock, but was legal in super stock. Thanks for correcting this post, I certainly have a lot to learn and do not wish to be putting incorrect information out there for others. The rule book can be quite something to decipher.
