Intake design for stock appearing class and needed a winter project

-
Cheatin sob. Would be interested in seeing it hooked to a head on a flowbench to get an idea of flow and mixture problems before you bolt it to the bullet.

Going to run a/f meter on both sides and check the plugs a bunch.

I have a spare ported head but no valves or flow bench.

How stock is a W2 head? I was
almost stock on the 360 lil red express truck. How about a stock 68 273/4 intake? Massage the ports to make the same 340 size by adding material to the bottom... cut the bottom out and lower it,, sinking the floor? Looks like you could manage that with a big band saw and some creative metalwork. There was an AMC racer that put 2 heads together top and bottom to raise the port height. How he did it, not sure but it would have probably been an angle cut to keep the chamber intact, just cutting the corner off and putting a taller corner on...lots of work for sure. Check out David Vizard's book on carburation. He got a GM spread bore intake to perform as well as "any aftermarket intake" just by shaping and honing the inside transitions.

W2’s have relocated ports. Also you can’t run a stock intake casting. X head is it for small block mopar. Getting the casting back after the sealing surface was inset today. Still have two more intake runners to make.

One runner,

Need to port match it. Clean up inside the runner a bit.

Just found this thread. What a neat project. Subscribed

Just curious is the plenum lower than the runners? Wondering if you are going to run into fuel puddling issues.

It is not lower, but close. I plan on roughing up the floor pretty good to give it some edges to atomize off. The one I’m running now, the upper plenum floor is 1 1/2” maybe from the carb base. Really just hammering the a/f charge into it. With this at least there is 6+ inches from carb base to plenum floor. Also I can bull nose the transition a bunch as it makes the turn laterally.

Well all four runners are done. Need to roughen up the inside with a burr and weld the ends on. Ugly on the outside just like me! ! Working within the area I have has made the runners nowhere near ideal, but we’ll see what happens. Still have to fill in the original upper runners and bolt/epoxy the the two together.

That looks like a hell of a project. What does the inside of the cut up manifold look like with the new plenum not installed? Just curious on what you were working with space wise.

Because of the large valleys that inner manifold bolts are in I can’t turn the runners towards the center like a tradition single plane.

That's awesome Bro, a little epoxy and a lot of smoothing and paint will make it stock appearing! Reminds me of early Nascar when they could slide the restrictor plate out of the Hemi's intakes like a piece of toast out of a toaster. Smokey wasn't the only "cheater"!

WE run Stock Eliminator Mopars.

There are several builders that can get you over .2+ with a professionally
modified and acid ported manifold AND they have to appear stock when inspected
off the car by tech. I have tried them back to back.
I know it is not the same but our stockers have to have stock lift and stock cc heads
but we do have Slicks and headers with stock shipping wt. = 10.5 @124 so it is apples
to oranges comparison

To do the manifolds is time consuming and they charge about 500 to 750 - You will pick up a amazing amt. The manifolds are really hurting what the heads can flow.

The exhausts are opened a bit and I remember a note worthy improvement from it. My next step for the exhaust manifolds might be ceramic coating inside and out to keep under hood temps down. I want to do some tests in regards to what the temp actually is under the hood during a run. A number of guys acid dip them.

Wonder what the weight of this will be compared to stock?
