Ideal Shift points for 904

-
Changing axle ratio [ like you did ] affects shift points in two ways: governor speed changes & throttle position can change. Going to 3.55 gears lessens the load on the engine & less throttle opening [ & hence KD lever position ] might be reqd to get the car moving. Even changing carb types could have an effect.

Personally, I like early upshifts for normal driving. It keeps engine rpm down & saves fuel [ important where I live ]. These are torquey engines that can handle early upshifts.

With my Mopars, I have always had to 'fiddle' with KD linkages, ratios, pivot points to get the shifts I like. Even then, there is always seems to be times when shifts seem too early or too late, no matter what brand of auto trans.

Which is why all my cars have full manual valve bodies. I control the shifts.

This makes sense, after all I did to mess with the kickdown it seems like its in the same spot as the last gearset, all the way pack with the rod against the throttle stud. Passing gear works like it should, and it does have delayed shirts if I accelerate harder. So like you mentioned gear changes may affect it, and im just going to leave it as is.
