My Dart Swinger Project!

It's the blue spark plug wires. Everybody knows you never use blue spark plug wires on a blue engine.
Man that i didn't know! I'm demoted back to newbie after all this! I had worked my way up to beginner but now I'm bumped back down lol.
All jokes aside you may not be wrong about the plug wires. I didn't like how they fit on the distributor cap at all. The spark plug ends was nice and tight with a good positive snap when they went on the cap end not so much they boots where very hard to push down over the cap and there was no connection feel. I didn't like it but thought it would be OK. Maybe that's my problem.

On some wires you can push the seal cap up the wire a bit, expose the end connector n hopefully feel it click in. My inlet leak was between tube and flare nut. Check male and female flares for gouging. Clamp on twist hones are available to eliminate gouges. Keep going and good luck!

At this point it may be worth a couple cranks with the distributor wire off a half inch or so and see if you see a snap when you crank it...

Im gonna run some tests hopefully here in a little while I just got off work I had to stop a get a few things at Walmart then I will be headed home. Im.gonna test the battery and draw at the coil.

I’m eagerly awaiting an engine running video. Good luck tonight.
Done some test most definitely having a battery issue. I tested the battery with the key off 12.7 key on 12.5 when cranking it dropped all the way down to 9.9. I checked the coil with the key on 10.4 when cranking it dropped down to 7.8 the lowest was even 6.7 so either my battery is bad or I have a serious draw from somewhere withing the ignition. But a new problem arises. Remember how I said last night during my test my starter quit? I have nothing at the starter now. As far as tournage goes. The key just clicks at the relay and when I cross over the relay I have nothing. But I can cross the starter with the solenoid and it cranks. Im thinking bad relay. But do relays just stop like that? I have power at the relay and at the ignition at the column just no cranking i think the relay is gone

Oh and on a side note I threw that same battery in my old trusty rusty 01 ram and it fired right off. It's running as we speak. I know the ignition systems aren't the same but just food for thought I don't want to leave no stone unturned

I’d say nothing surprises me anymore with aftermarket mostly Chinese parts.
That's the thing the relay is the original one. Been fine for 46 years been in storage the last 17 years it worked fine when first installed it then right at the end before I gave up it just stopped working

Last time I had a starter relay go bad all of a sudden like that, I think it must have lost connection to the neutral safety switch terminal on the inside somehow. I rigged up a jumper wire to go from that terminal to a ground, and the car fired right up. If I remember right (been a minute) it is the terminal kind of towards the bottom of the relay, and is the one closest to the firewall. Usually has a wire with a plug that wraps over the side of the relay.....and I think a yellow wire? You could try rigging a jumper wire and see if it turns over, then go buy a new relay if it does. Dang, I wish I was close enough to come give you a hand! If the ol rusty truck has enough gas in it....let it charge the battery for a while. Hang in there dude....you'll get it! :)

That was the first thing I thought of! So I went inside and in park and neutral I can hear the relay click. In reverse and in gear there's nothing. So I believe the neutral switch is working.

Yea that's what I had to do.

Electrical demons are maddening.30 years ago on my 350 efi landCruiser I had 6a Msd, i installed a 4 injector throttle body Injection kit too. My buddy who's an expert in this field, owns and operates Imagine Injection could not get fire to ignition. He ultimately pulled the MSD and tried GM HEI, worked perfectly and still in the truck today. Maybe this helps, idk. Good luck

Del and I had a phone conversation tonight he helped me out alot. He solved the relay issue. He walked me thru step by step until I found it. The solenoid wire at the starter lost connection. And we also solved the battery drop issue. Unfortunately it's not the battery. I have a huge drop in voltage between the battery and coil. So I'm gonna start with the bulkhead. Take it apart clean it lube and back together, Also discovered the ecu is not working. So im gonna remove and replace it. Eventually it will start. Lol I can't thank all you guys enough for all the help. I really love this site. Yall keep me going and motivated.

That’s great glad you talked to Del. I don’t think anyone else on here knows wiring better than him.
I agree the dude is a genius. He makes me feel dumb to be honest! Lol I'm sure glad we have guys with his knowledgable and know how that hang around here daily!

That's good news, glad you're moving forward. This site is amazing for sure. One more thing I gotta mention, I had 2 trusted guys not ask, but tell me to ditch my old wiring. It's spendy, dash harness was about $600 , engine forward was $180. Even though my old wiring was not hacked and only the blower feed looked crispy, I got all new, and man, the stuff is good. Awesome peace of mind. Actually, it was reading many electrical posts here that explained these older systems, and where and why they fail. I have no a/c, no stereo and a 60 amp alternator to keep loads reasonable. Just my 2 cents friend. Good luck and keep going!

Yea thats one of those things I know I need to do but am scared to death to try and pull off. I'm not the best with electrical and rewiring the whole car is very intimidating. I just think of all the little things that would have to be wired and I can't even wrap my head around it lol.

Big update! Finally got it started and got it broken in. I have some bugs to work out now that the break in is finished, I have a trans leak its leaking really bad. And I have some leaks around the upper rad hose. Im gonna put a new clamp on it. Here is a video of the break in. It kinda got mixed up I didn't have a ton of time to edit it lol. The first run was during the break in.

Congratulations!!! You did it!! I'm very happy for you. And think how much you know now in the ignition/electrical areas compared to what you knew before. You had a big task and you accomplished it. Congrats!!

You gotta be happy with it after all the trouble you had getting her going, PITA, but it happens to everyone, very happy for ya bud, well done!

I just upload them to YouTube then copy the link.

Thank you guys! I am extremely happy. I am still somewhat nervous tho that something could have went wrong or a lifter will fail or something like that. But I'm at the point like screw it of it does it does I will tear in back down and build it back up if something does happen. Im really stoked and super excited about putting it in drive and taking it down the road now!
