I currently have a 72 Dart project car that I am considering parting with.

Due to some health issues and the recent passing of my son. I have lost interest in our project. I am not desperate to sell but I just do not seem to have the ability to jump back into it right now.

I am considering purchasing a car that is complete so I can spend some time driving.

1972 2 door Dart Swinger Nevada Car. Started life as a 318-column shift, 7.25 open rear.

It is basically rust free, except it originally had a vinyl top and the sail panels have some surface rust on both sides, both rear outer fenders have rust at the bottom that has bubbled through. Floors are solid. We were planning to have the car dustless blasted but never got to that.

We added:
ESPO +1 springs
KYB Shocks all around
Swapped in an 8 3/4 with 3:55's and Eaton Posi
Strange 4.5 bolt pattern axels
920 Torsion bars
73 K Member reinforced by FABO member Jim Lusk - Powder coated.
MP Aluminum Master cylinder 1.125 bore
73 up steering knuckles
QA1 Tubular Uppers
11.75 OEM discs up front with pin calipers.
Currently has rear drums, but we were planning on a Dr. Diff rear disc upgrade.
72 Lower control arms with Delrin bushings
QA1 adjustable struts
Borgeson quick ratio power steering box
Big inner and outer tie rods
New steering arm
New Wheel Vintiques 15" police wheels with 225/60's up front and 255/60's rear

We have a Mazzolini 904 trans, that has about 400 miles on it, it shifts firm. It could probably use some freshening up with new seals, and maybe a couple of heli-coils.

Currently has a 360 short block that had some piston damage, when my son raced it with some light break in springs on the heads which allowed the valves to kiss the pistons. The block seems to be fine. To the best of my memory It has a stock stroke, internally balanced 360 crank, the block was magged, align bored, lightly decked, and squared. Milodon stock replacement pan, it probably has a windage tray and high-volume oil pump, but I am not sure on the windage tray. KB107 zero deck pistons, Hughes HE 3038AL hydraulic cam. Double roller timing chain. We had the motor built in 2000 so I do not recall all the specifics. I would consider it as a good foundation for a build, or possibly put new pistons and let it roll who knows. It only has a few miles
Airgap performer RPM manifold,
Edelbrock 750 electric choke carb,
mopar as cast aluminum valve covers.
Pertronix flame thrower III billet distributor
Lokar throttle and kickdown cables
TTI headers, they have had some repairs, but they are nice headers even with a couple of reliefs.

We did not get around to the interior:
The gauge panel is a survivor that has had a good cleaning and looks nice.
Column shift
Aftermarket Tuff Wheel, I have the original non tuff wheel too.
Dash Pad is cracked, but I have a good one that needs some vinyl dye to match whatever color it needs to be.
I have a new carpet in box.
Will need new a windshield. The other glass is in good shape.
Originally had AC, but that was long gone when I got it, but it does have the heater box and controls.
I have a set of E Body buckets that are in real nice shape, but not sure If I can part with them.

Clearcoat is peeling and will need a new paint job if that is your thing..
I kind of liked is as it is ugly car stomps pretty car thing.. LOL

Our car is located in the Dallas area It does not run and is not drivable right now, so one would have to consider transportation.

We had a ton of work in the car using real solid OEM and aftermarket parts.

I am sure I left a lot of stuff off.

$2.5 to $4K slow sell

Broken internal motor with valve interference, new parts partially installed, No front seats, no carpet, speaker cut doors, minor vinyl top rust, minor lower quarter bubbling. 1972 model year.

if someone says, the parts are worth that.... well start dismantling it and put the old parts back on to make it a roller. Probably have $1.5K roller and $2.5k parts

.... of course taking it apart is just as much effort to get it running with what you got right now

and yes it would be worth more in New York...and it would cost $1000-$1500 to get it there.

Thanks, FWIW I would really not want to part with the motor or trans anyway, it was a strong runner and you are correct the parts are worth more than the car, tranny alone was 1000.00. I was just trying to be as honest as possible in my description.. But with minimal effort it could easily be a nice cruiser / bruiser especially since I did mention I have new carpet in the box.

I am looking to buy this car as a replacement, and offset the cost a little is all.

didn’t notice the windshield. That will be a wash with the carpet you have.

If you pull the motor and trans but leave the headers and rest... I’m thinking $2.5K maybe

it would probably cost you $20K to $25K farming out the paint and you spending 100’s of Hours assembling and chasing down everything else yourself to make your current dart like that Duster.

Thanks man but I really don’t consider my hours in the hobby as a cost, because in my opinion there is no way to value doing what I truly enjoy, although there are members in here who operate as a business and have that capacity. I would much rather do all I can my self.

I also agree that the paint will be a big expense, but I am not sure I would ever have a car with a paint job that costs 20 - 25k any way. I would rather leave it a little less pretty and maybe look at 5-7500. I don’t have any trailer queens I drive every car I own.

That duster is sweet as hell, and I was looking to cut out about a year or two of time to completion.

I’m not counting your labor. $20-25k for farming paint and body out, then parts only. New Interior, console, steering column, chrome, detailing, motor, other detailing parts, scoops, rims, etc.

There’s a lot to go on your Dart to get it to look like that Duster.
