Super Shops Nostalgia

-
Not bad:thumbsup: Nothing like a little nostalgia!! Now if only P.A.W. would return:lol:
And Gratiot, and Hamburger's *for 340s and 360s Only* (not the generic parts reseller that Hedman now owns...)
Yeah, P.A.W. got a lot of my money back in the day.

Geez I don't even remember the shops in San Diego in my Navy days. There was one out on El Cajon BLVD and at least one other, I don't even remember just where, or the names, anymore.

Was there one in Vancouver? I'd been to the one on 82nd in Portland many times. Was there one at Jantzen Beach? Damn I can't remember!!
It was the one on 82nd, and the thriftys was on 122nd, there was also one in beaverton if I remember right, been there a couple times, the good ole days!.

Had a super shops in Renton Washington back in the late 90's I'm not sure when they finally shut down, but those guys could sure put the biggest wheel & tire in a stock wheel well, I bought my weld racing wheels & bfg's from them on Layaway when I was 17 & making $5.00 an hour so that was much appreciated. Great story huh

Add me to the SS Fan Club! These were on my Cuda when I bought it in 1991 and aren't going anywhere.

The San Bernardino/Highland store on Baseline got a lot of my money back then. I still run my $109 Hooker headers ...

If we went over the hill to San Berdoo, SS was one of the stops regardless of what we went that direction for :D.

Maybe I should have been paying attention in high school instead of flipping through the P.A.W. catalog. .............
NAH!

Holley to my understanding purchased the naming rights for "Super Shops" to add to their brand. With their broad product line that they are involved with directly, the Super Shops name gives them recognition and the ability to put together a store front to boost their sales and the parts that they are able to retail for other manufacturers. So they will be competing directly with the likes of Jegs and Summit.

Only thing lacking in the box was a Super Shop stickerl. :( I sent them an email mentioning they should one day include one with orders. :poke: Summit and Jegs get tossed anymore, too big and just no cool factor

Had a nice SuperShop in Vegas, around 96? it closed.
Smokin' good price on the 800 cfm Edelbrock.
I told this story before and will again. Talking to the guys that run the Edelbrock road show I was told, The remans are the way to go. New are done on a assembly line. The remans are taken apart, repaired, parts replaced and then reassembled by 1 person. Most are minor like missing clips or linkage wrong and the like. Even though, they get a complete go thru.He said "I hate to say it but the remans have much better quality workmanship. Lots of mark-up in the new,so not a problem selling the so called reman for less." Been buying them since without a problem.

I've heard and read the same thing.

I used to go in there everyday on my way home from school in my 63 ChevyII Nova and look at all the chrome headers, valve covers and breathers caps and air cleaners, braided hose dress up kits. Yep I would spend my money there almost everyday.....getting some gum out of the machine for a penny on the way out the door.
No wonder they went under.

Best thing I remember was the smell of the place when you walked. Reeked of speed parts.

I just ran into an issue with Super Shops. In June of 2021, I made a purchase (payed with debit card). When recieved one item was missing (ARP head washers). I called them and they were shipped fairly quickly, but not invoiced. I called them several times to get the invoice, and pay them, which never happened. So I thought, they might have just made it a "freebee" for customer relations. On Monday 5-21-2022 I saw a charge of $8.72 on my checking acct, from Super Shops. I called SS, and was told that was for the washers. Say what? 11 months after purchase, and no warning or invoice? What if it had been for more money then I had in the acct? I would have been hit for OD charges. I have no problem paying for the parts, it is just the way they charged them to me. When I spoke to them on the phone I asked for a E-mail invoice. I still have not received one.
PS: Their web site privacy statement says they do not retain customers card numbers. So how were they able to charge me 11 months later.

Used to go to the Super Shops in Savannah Georgia every time we went to Rivers Street, way back when. loved that place.

Still remember that Supershops box truck sitting along hwy97 outside of Klamath Falls, OR. Always wanted to stop but most of the time I was on the way to Springfling either coming or going.

Best thing I remember was the smell of the place when you walked. Reeked of speed parts.
it reeked of BFG tires! It's almost the same smell as Harbor Freight....and all their wheelbarrow tires.

So I'm checkin' out their site, seeing how much they carry and how their prices compare... and what do I find?
Edelbrock EDL9934 Edelbrock 9934 Carburetor (supershops.com)
What am I missing? It's late and I'm tired, but there must be a catch...

Yeah, most of the other remans that they list are still in the $300-$400 range. What the heck- I took a flier on it, we'll see what it looks like when it gets here. I'll have to explain it to the wife in the morning...
So, after more than a YEAR of waiting on an "in stock" carb, unreturned phone calls and unanswered Emails, they finally say they are cancelling my order- they had forgotten I even placed it. "No longer available". It was when I ordered it...
What about my refund?
"We don't charge your card until it ships".
I used Paypal.
"We have no record of that..."
So I send them a copy of the Paypal payment and a copy of their own receipt from the sale listing it as paid with Paypal...
"Oh, I guess we'll refund your Paypal account"...
Gee, thanks!
I'm done with them, nostalgia be damned.

It's not the same place with the multiple changes in ownership.

I have my own story about why I think the original management regarding personnel treatment of the place was shitty... seems the name is carrying on that history to customers now.

I will say this, learned a lot about how to treat employees working for the original company. More importantly, I learned more about how to NOT treat employees!!!

Nothing will ever be the same as it was, last of the good times were lost in the 1990s, sad factoid.
