1969 Dodge Dart Swinger clean up

-
Trailer on ready to go in the morning and at least I got my wiring clips made...

Pattern for new wiring clips.
1969dartswingerweek7 093.JPG

Part of an old tool box is just a bit thicker than stock but will work nice.
1969dartswingerweek7 098.JPG

Stacked them up and drilled for the bending slot. DON'T DO THIS...
1969dartswingerweek7 101.JPG

Holes too close to edge.. we'll start again!
1969dartswingerweek7 103.JPG

New set sheared out and drilled one at a time, then slotted between the holes.
1969dartswingerweek7 104.JPG

Tabs bent and shaped.
1969dartswingerweek7 105.JPG

The first one came out nice.
1969dartswingerweek7 107.JPG

I bent the rest backwards by unintentionally flipping the part and following the slot slant. Oh well.. the 2 on the side will be backwards, nose will get the correct one.
1969dartswingerweek7 111.JPG

My plasti dip is still good! Had it for years, sealed with tin foil.
1969dartswingerweek7 112.JPG

Dipped and letting them dry, welding will happen another day. Tomorrow is shot going to get my new lift!!! :D

Lost the days progress to $$$ saving! I've had a lift on order for over 3 months with no delivery in sight and the nightly marketplace browsing paid off. The exact Direct Lift 9000 extended deck c/w jacks was listed last weekend and I made a guy a deal for $4500Cdn cash and thankfully he didn't sell it out from under me this week with his phone ringing off the hook for it. New with tax and delivery the lift and jacks are $8220 ! The savings just covered all the parts I've bought for the Dart and enough left for McDonald's. How da fawk I'm gonna get it back out of the trailer is yet to be figured out. It took 5 guys to carry the deck plate with the lift cylinder in it.

About 6 bucks! Seriously our Dollar is back up to almost 80 cents on your dollar. So $3600 US

Just imagine how many fellow FABO members wish they were fighting your devastating battles!! (How do I get my lift off the trailer???). Congrats; me and probably several others are envious of your new acquisition.

Just me and the wife here... so yah it's gonna be interesting and creative! When we got married 39 years ago I had $13.84 in the bank and she had 2 grand. We ordered a bed only to find out somehow her Mother had her bank account froze on her and we couldn't pay for it. No silver spoon here.. :drama:

Nice! When I visit my Oma in Germany she always gets miffed when i make fun of her Euros and tell her they look like monopoly money and only USD look like legal tender. Jokes on me as the funny looking euros are 20% better than my "Ami Dollars," as my Oma likes to call them.

Old Man Winter has to stop cutting into my shop time!!! Full morning is shot, but it's purdy at least...

Afternoon will be mostly lost getting my trailer hooked on and everything ready to go pick up my 4 post 9000lb extended Direct lift tomorrow! Still hoping to get some welding done before calling it a day.

Godspeed. I trust your maple syrup reserves are ample enough to make it through these hard times.

Okay lol, I'm sorry, that's the last of my Canada jokes, i swear.

Nice 4 post. https://directlift.com/product/pro-park-9-plus/ if this is one you acquired that's about $3,500 USD. I guess you're looking to double storage real estate.
I'm shopping for a 2 post for ability to work on everything with tires off. Quick search reveals least expensive, a Chinese unit... @$1,709.00 free shipping. I'll keep shopping...

Look at a Max Jax by Danmar, made by Bendpak, I have one, bought 7 years ago, paid $2200.00 CAD. It works great, no complaints, lifts about 4 ft or so, 6000 lbs capacity, unless you have a high ceiling it would work well.

SOunds about right in US funds, but that's only the lift. Our distributor is $4395CDN for the lift. EACH pro 4500 jack unit is another $1195CDN. $551 on top for delivery and 13% tax. Total cost $8219CDN Damn pricey considering I paid less than $3000 for my Direct Lift 9000 lb 2 post 8 years ago.

I told him that at least the next customer he has in queue, that's been waiting for a lift like I was for 3 months, will be gladly surprised that he has no more wait !!!!!! :D Oh.. and "thanks for your time" !

Thanks dadsbee. Just remembered my buddy shares a building with an exhaust shop that has a new, but not used in years, 10,000# Bednpack still shrink wrapped just taking up space. Think I'll stop by and ask how much?

Thanks for this post. Picked up some date correct valve covers for my 69 Swinger with the same issue. I will be trying this method to repair them. Haven’t read your entire thread yet but saw pics of the car at the beginning, is that T5 Copper for the exterior paint?

Based on other members T5 Copper cars if it's not T5 it's damn close. I have no specs on what the paint mix was. Wiring clips finished coming up shortly....

Doing some TIG welding that I shouldn't have to do on new parts.
1969dartswingerweek8 004.JPG

Some crappy Monday morning beads. Better than the way it came.
1969dartswingerweek8 019.JPG

Welded some gussets that I cut out to the engine mount restrictor, that I'd fabricated last week.
1969dartswingerweek8 025.JPG

Gussets all in.
1969dartswingerweek8 026.JPG

Plenty strong now to catch a broken engine mount.
1969dartswingerweek8 043.JPG

New wiring tabs held in place with a magnet from below to locate it for looks. Note that TIG doesn't work right if you leave the magnet there..
1969dartswingerweek8 002.JPG

Wish I'd bought the spot welder the local radiator shop had last year. Oh well, TIG it is and magnet moved from directly below the clip before welding.
1969dartswingerweek8 029.JPG

One on. Didn't cook the plasti dip too much. Should have just brushed it on after the fact, as I touched them all up anyhow before paint.
1969dartswingerweek8 032.JPG

Wiring tab going onto end of cover.
1969dartswingerweek8 035.JPG

Tab welded in place. I then cleaned all the welds up smooth with a dremel burr after this shot.
1969dartswingerweek8 041.JPG

Dipped the rear leaf spring hangers for full coverage in flat and to match the cars flat frame paint.
1969dartswingerweek8 049.JPG

Engine mount restrictor dipped in semi gloss to match the K frame.
1969dartswingerweek8 054.JPG

Covers cleaned up, wiped down with wax and grease remover and ready to paint.
1969dartswingerweek8 060.JPG

Three nice coats of Turquoise.
1969dartswingerweek8 069.JPG

Under the "bake" oven.
1969dartswingerweek8 072.JPG

Dipped the rear leaf spring hangers in T-9

Like to hear what your lift salesmen says. Probably something like :mob::mad::wtf:.

I told him that at least the next customer he has in queue, that's been waiting for a lift like I was for 3 months, will be gladly surprised that he has no more wait !!!!!! :D Oh.. and "thanks for your time" !
BTW Fran, I emailed my salesman and the other three he'd been cc'ng all along. All of them clicked their read receipt shortly after 7AM this morning. I highly expected an email from him either telling me I was a dick, or the smarter tact to tell me he was sorry I had to take the action I did and hopefully he could serve me in the future for any other needs I may have. Nothing.. just crickets, great sales group !

Princess Auto has spot welders on sale lol. Lookin good!
I've thought about them a few times, but reviews are never the greatest. The one the rad shop had for sale was a good 220v Canox unit from days of old... I should go over and see if Aaron still has it for 200 bucks.

Every time a read receipt window pops up in my email I think to myself "dick," as i close it without sending a confirmation.
