I'm just venting. But I would like to hear from anyone else who ordered headers...

I took advantage of Autozone's Black Friday deal, and purchased a set of Doug's Headers.
That was on Nov 27. I knew there might be a bit of a wait, but I was prepared to deal with a few weeks.

Friday afternoon, I realized it has been 2 months since I made that order. On the receipt they sent me, it clearly states that my payment "will be charged to your PayPal when the order SHIPS". As you can probably guess, the money was debited from my account the same day that I made the order.

So, 2 months later and I'm out that money and don't have the product I paid for. I call their customer service and am told that they'll look into it. Today, I get an email from Autozone saying that the company cannot provide this part.

Yes, they did issue a refund, which is to be expected. But, why in the world did it take this long to figure this out? I have a sneaky suspicion that the deal I got on the item didn't meet their minimum required margin.

What's the part number? Never mind. I found your post about the discount and free shipping.

Well, that’s a bummer but not something I’d call a surprise since they were probably loosing money.

This is not a horrible AutoZone story.

Try being stuck 600+ miles from home and the snot nose arrogant POS teenager behind the counter won’t get you the part, which is in your hand (serpentine belt) that you got at of all places from AutoZone in your state because you need a “Year, Make, Model, Engine size” of the vehicle it came off of. While you stand there saying it is a custom application that you won’t find in the computer! Just take this part number and enter it in the computer and see if it is on the shelf!

Then with an arrogant reply exaggerating the word, “SIR!” Over and over again.

1 plus hours later the manager walks in so I can complain and he laughs saying “No way did me...”

Stop! Get the employe here again and I’ll suffer through it one more time. And so hence he did and SCREAMED! At the mid who still refuse and argued with the boss for 20 minutes.

Total time to get a 6 rib 20 something inch serpentine belt was just over two hours.

Then the kid puts the wrong belt in the bad and the horrible afternoon continues on...

Sorry, your story ain’t Jack!
You did get your money back right?
You should scream at customer service and complain on up the chain or do and until you get what you paid for and screw customer service.

Complain about your only cars down time!
Rattle cages!
Make phone calls your new hobby.

I had an AutoZone guy claim they do t take used oil.
I left it on the floor where they always tell a customer to put it. He demanded a receipt! I said I don’t need one, the LAW says you must take it.

15 paces out the door, he threw the 5 gallon jug at me.
1 phone call later, he was fired and the level of *** missing I got you’d think I was a freaking king.

Weeks later, the new store manager let it be known he didn’t like me. After some exchanges, (and picking up his accentor an out of stater, I had enough of the rough words and yell at him he should go back up north to his commie state or get his *** kicked at closing.

He was gone by weeks end. Not my doing but the employees thanks me and there close Circuit system and there combined (same) stories of what an *** he was.

Next week I come in and the franchise owner is just about jerking me off.

Start your bitching elsewhere!
Pick up a phone and go Johnny go!!!

I feel for ya, I do, they screwed you, but in my eyes, it wasn’t so bad.

If the vendor can't supply they can't deliver sounds like a supply chain issue not really AutoZone's fault. I think this problem will get worse and it's not just a auto parts problem. Most likely the problem is with Doug's ability to make them.

AutoZone is not a franchise all stores are company owned

I was just in there today to buy a 4.99 can of flat black paint that they sell at Home Depot for 1.99. Guy walks in with 2 jugs of used motor oil and he's dripping in the floor, the clerk puts the phone call on hols and politely grabs a roll of towels and starts wiping up the oil, tells the other clerk to take care of those leaking oil jugs and gets back on the phone doing a stock check on something that was $190...he checked stock at 8 stores on his terminal trying to find this part for the caller. This guy was sharp! Talking him through the install procedure off the top of his head. Old fart comes in off lunch as asks if he can help me. Im just here to get a can of spray paint...Oh, the cage is open, just slide it. I got my paint and left no drama. I think it really depends on who you deal with.

It pays to make friends with the guy behind the counter

10 plus years and no way to befriend this guy at my local parts stores. Thank god he finally left. If he was working I would turn away and walk out. Forget what car but a/c pump seized. Went in and told him I wanted a bypass pulley and belt kit. He said there was no such thing. I moved over one counter and the guy goes out back and comes back with my pulley and belt. This only made him hate me more !

Rock auto, no drama.
Summit racing, no drama
Jegs, no drama
Ebay, no drama
Restoration parts places (except PG) no drama
Walmart for name brand chemicals. No drama
Local salvage yard, no drama

Vato Zone. Well I bought a cool mopar hat there once.

Lol you just finding that out! None of the people that work there are mechanics or even know anything about cars or trucks. They just type in info! The only way the old school parts stores will survive is if people stop going to these big chain store doushbags that don’t know ****! I got thrown out of the store in my neighborhood cause I went off on the counter person and the manager! **** em

I use my local NAPA the manager is sharp and very likable. How ever the two people that work the counter put together don't make a dumb person. If I ask for a part for my Barracuda there response is "what's a Barracuda?" I reply it's a Plymouth and I get "what's a Plymouth?" So if possible I get the part number of the website and take it to the store with me. I suspect for what they pay this is as good as they can find.

Well dang, I didn't mean to bring up so many bad memories for all you folks!

I only ordered them from the Autozone website because of the Black Friday deal. Normally, I don't step foot in a retail location.

The Autozone near me is comprised of kids who know nothing but what the computer tells them.
Sucks.

I have a new one that opened up down the street a few months ago. I haven't been in the store but I don't see many customer cars parked out front. I'll go there for convenience but my in town go to's are NAPA and O Reillys. Both have knowledge counter help and O's donates money to our Mopar club event at the drag strip.

Just an update...

I called the Doug's (Pertronix) customer service line. I asked them about availability for the headers. They are back ordered until Feb 15, which would not have bothered me to wait.

Doug's rep says Autozone cancelled the order, due to the amount of time it went without being fulfilled.

I called Autozone to ask who confirmed the cancellation. Autozone rep says Doug's cancelled the order, due to a lack of stock.

Either way, both companies say I can re-order but without the discount that was applied back in November.

Just complete incompetence all the way around.

Next time (if there is one) it would be worth it to ask if they are in stock and how long they will honor the back order and discount. A bunch of us checked things out when we ordered thousands$$$ from Speedmaster a couple black Fridays in a row.

I agree! Or just have Summit price match them.
