Man, that is scary how many parallels are now in todays USA culture.
"The population was urged to rid itself of the “Four Olds”: Old customs, old culture, old habits, and old ideas." as we see the destruction of historical statues, obliteration of names and relaxation of work ethic.
"With different factions of the Red Guard movement battling for dominance, many Chinese cities reached the brink of anarchy"
Portland and Seattle's 'autonomous zones" as well as other major city blocks being controlled by lawless crowds.
"..opposed by the more radical Jiang and her allies, who became known as the Gang of Four" AOC and her 'squad"?
" (insert Trump or Biden here)'s large-scale s attack on the party and system he had created would eventually produce a result opposite to what he intended, leading many Chinese (American) to lose faith in their (current) government altogether" Yes, either can be viewed as alienating a portion of the population here.
