Another 273 commando build .. This one will be a "BEAST"

-
here is the video of the erson cam in the 273 with flat top pistons . sounds "Nasty" with low compression .. cold start up .

Going to use hedman husler p/n 75109 fender well headers . 1 3/4" tubes with 3 inch collectors with this new "Beast" . Same 1 3/4" size tubes were used on the 66 d-dart. I think they should make some serious hp. not too small, not too big , Just right !

upon doing more research on these 1 3/4" fenderwell headers ... I think they will not be a good choice for the 273 .. may take away alot of bottom end power away . I think the sweet spot is 1 5/8".

If it runs half as good as it sounds it will be a "monster"

Oh man...what are the 318 guys going to do now ... start a "which is better " thread about the 273...?

Straw-man argument no one has said 318 is better than 340/360 or a smarter choice but just it’s a capable engine and no reason not to be built especially 400 hp and under if one so chooses. 273 would be a harder argument to make but 350 hp and less could be done easily if one so chooses.

Some people like the idea of a high spinning sb it’s a lot easier and cheaper to make peak power 6500 + rpm with a 273 than a 408 sure it will be a lot less power.

I got called a "318 hater" (On another forum) for mentioning the shortfalls of the stock LA heads... people are morons there's this whole class of folks that think 318 is "Mopar performance" when in fact back in the day that engine was scrapped without question for a 340 /360 or a big block. Most cases it was for a 383...

even with low compression flat tops it has a nice pop to it .
Low compression motors can run really strong if tuned right. That's pretty much the secret to making most any combination run is the tune. A crappy tune will make even the best combination shine like a rusted blade.

My current 273 build with the isky cam . The BEAST ! It's got 3 years on it now with no issues ! People just don't believe me when I tell them "it's just a little 273" .

That sounds a little tammer than the Erson cam. Still has a lope. Is this engine low compression 273?

no ..............this 273 has the 10.5 dome pistons. this engine makes way more hp and tq than the (erson) big cam did. this 273 "SCREAMS" !!

I quess i missed the part of naming the Beast.
Does it have anything to do with the off-road equipment tires? Sounds like one hell of a "FABO Dune Runner" Go Bro Go ;)

I thought I'd give this recent 273 build with the isky cam the "BEAST" name because, even If I built another 273 with that big Erson cam and 10.5 compression pistons , this recent build will walk all over it.

I'm a believer. In my younger days my son and i did a lot of rock crawling and Jeep building.
"Air down and rock on"

I asked the owner what kind of numbers it turned but no response.
Sounds good though.

First time I ever herd of a "273" was in the 80's I was a teenager and a guy probably twice my age had a 66 barracuda, like kids at the time do i walked over asked him about it he's like "its a 273" I remember thinking "what's a 273? never heard of it..."it actually sounded small when all ya ever heard was 350, 351 Cleveland, 396,454, 383,440 etc.:)
