No spark

I suspect something went wrong in the ignition system. Something throwing spark off time.
 
Too bad you didn't have a points dizzy. One wire to the neg side of coil, and a wire straight from the battery to the positive side of the coil. Hard on the coil, yes. But, it would be fine for the break in

Im about to buy a hei chip and wire it up just to get it broken in then I can fix the wiring. I just can't figure out what's going on. Obviously the one ecu is bad. But with the other one it isn't acting right either.

4 pole HEI is a simple hook up. Man i wish you lived close, I have a points dizzy we could swap in and get that thing broke in!!!

To me that sounds like a fuel issue if it just shut off with no other sign... Just ran out of gas...
 
It's good you got the RPMs way up for a little bit at least you know you have oil circulating in there..
 
If it revved right up without any misses then I would have just thrown some more gas in the carburetor and went at it again..

I did. It just backfired thru the carb and died again. It is throwing a huge flame out of the carb but won't hit anymore.

Maybe its spraying fuel. Maybe its just not getting a steady stream after its running?

Always put the air filter back on before you fire it so no flame balls!!. You tryin to burn your new engine and bay down...
Especially when you first fire as your not sure of timing...
