Stop in for a drink.

So while in Ark I sprung for this single malt. The limit was one per customer. I got bottle 352 of 500 something bottles. And in fact I got the last bottle in captivity. My buddy had a couple of two inch thick T bones for the grill. It was on! The single malt is a 18 year and honestly was the best single malt I have ever tried in my life. I always like to sample new and different whiskeys at room temperature with no water added. I figure it gives me a better basis to taste from later on when I add a cube or a splash of water. It is a bit taller on proof than most single malts but did not attack me when I sipped it. You knew it was alcohol but it was very smooth and subtle on the tongue, likely from the sherry cask? But once it actually made it to my tummy I got warm all over, from my feet to top of my head! It was amazing. Smooth smooth smooth. Once I added a splash of water to it my senses were in overload. It was complex without being heavy and had a almost honey like taste. Great color and was slippery for a mouth feel, kind of just glided around, man it was good. We decided to not drink entire bottle in one sitting so as to enjoy it on next evening. We did exactly that and again easily the best single malt I have ever tasted. Wife looked high and low but much like TMMs RVW bottle it is unobtainable. Bummer, it was really tasty.

Speaking of aged spirits, I just watched a Buffalo Trace video where they were talking and tasting George Stagg and Stagg Jr. They bottle it only twice a year, it is barrel strength (130 proof) and The George is no newer than 15 years. It should be good bourbon. Buffalo Trace also makes the Van Winkle spirits that are very limited and just crazy collectable.

I bought a full sized bottle yesterday but picked up 3 shooters. The Cody Road and the Glen I would buy. The Cody Road is a Iowa rye from a distillery in LeClaire.

7 cases of Coors Extra Gold
2 full fifths of Crown Royal
1 fifth of Revel Stoke
1 carton of Marlboro lights.
1 new Bic lighter.

Yep...I should be good to next Friday.

I might have mentioned this stuff. It's from Boulevard Brewing and Foundry Distilling (here in Iowa) They take wheat beer and distill it. it has a very smooth single malt flavor with subtle banana and clove nose and flavor. I read that the yeast they often use for wheat beer brewing gives it the banana and clove notes. Fun stuff. I think I posted this a few pages back. :BangHead::BangHead:

Since back in April of last year, Coors beer has been in short supply. All versions from Coors light to Extra Gold.

I suspected it was because of the unique tall/thin can style they used being in short supply with the virus impacting aluminum manufacturing making standard sizes first priority.

All of a sudden, a couple of weeks ago, all of the Coors products are back in stock at full volume.

I picked up a new case today and whatdya know...a new standard size can.

See the old vs. new can....

You're absolutely right. I've got a good friend who's pretty high up at a Miller-Coors distributor and he's said the same thing. Bottles, cans, and other packaging that comes from Mexico have been on very short supply since the beginning of the pandemic. Glad you're able to find your go-to brew. Cheers man.
 
So my buddy who is a Rye affection-ado is coming into town tomorrow. I am not a big Rye fan but I humor him because he is an all around good guy. Here is what is on the menu for him. He is from Omaha so I am betting he is familiar with the Iowa Rye scene. I have never sampled most of these and made a liquor store run for him. Anybody familiar with any of them? Any guidance for ranking? I will have a nice single malt and let him play in the Rye till the music doth die.

I have a bottle of Basil Hayden's Kentucky straight Bourbon whiskey and it taste watered down to me I don't like it. I hope your dark Rye is better.

The dark rye is different stuff. It's finished in a wine barrel. I still have a half bottle. It might last a long time. LOL
