Tranny blanket

I bought a lofgren blanket years ago. It fits like a charm, but I don't think he's making it anymore. You may want to look at RCI.

Like this?

Hey kim- you may want to post this in the racing section. I know a some folks ignore the general sections.

FYI , Kim , NHRA has banned blankets in their competition some time ago . THEY now require a Kevlar shield . but that's only in NHRA competition . It's a real pita to install . if you want a blanket for personnel reasons o.k. just make sure they are SFI rated . hope this helps .

Thanks for this info! Do you know what classes they banned blankets for? I found this in the general section:

I’ll post in the race section. Idk trans blankets were banned. Our track switched to IHRA 2 or 3 years ago. They were NHRA since the 60s. Thanks. Kim

The only problem I found with using a transmission blanket is, if you do explode a transmission the blanket absorbs the fluid & cannot be used again until it doesn't drip anymore. I can see why people run them, but they are a PITA to clean.

Hopefully my tranny doesn’t explode as I put 3 grand worth of good parts into it. Plus the converter is for nos and a trans brake. I guess I could get a shield but we only race 3-4 times a year. I heard that being my car was a 4 gear that it is easier to install a shield. Idk about that though. Kim

Which is the best and best fitting. I see alit of universal ones. Or does a guy get a shield? 74 duster BB stroker/ 727. Thanks. Kim

I had a blanket on mine for several years. It was a universal one from Summit.
Then I switched to TTI headers and they fit so close that they straps melted off the blanket.
I'm looking at the CSR shield and moving the firewall back and opening up the tunnel. 69 Dart

Hey dont laugh.

Or at least He could be a female Gymnast, if he wanted to.

I have a Jegs universal blanket on my 727 with a Cope deep pan. It's okay but the straps could be a little longer. However I'm probably going to go with an ATI shield though I've heard there are fitment issues with them. The floor in my Dart is already cut out around the transmission with a removable tunnel so hopefully the ATI shield will fit.

I have the DJ Safety Blanket on the AMX, I got from CRT. The straps are too long, leaving a lot of excess, can cut off what isn't needed. I had to modify the headers away from it, and had to make brackets to keep it away from the shift linkage and cable for the Turbo Action shifter. The CSR shield I got was not even close to fitting, and I don't think it would have fit between the trans and the stock floor.

SFI approved transmission blankets are NHRA legal. Some of the blankets are shorter, just covering the transmission. Depending how fast you go, might need a SFI flex plate shield along with the blanket, or a larger blanket that covers the bellhousing area. Friends of mine never liked the blankets, because they seem to get oil soaked and retain transmission heat. But the trans temp gauge I have on the AMX has not seen more than 160 degrees.

We ran 10.40s all day long with the 470. Now a 543 will be going in. I’m hoping it runs 9s. It will have the cam out of the 470 and a little better set of heads. Plus a super Victor and dominator carb. Kim
