sirmopar, you may want to broaden you search to early 318 cranks as well they were steel and have the same stroke....

Counterweight is different
some where I heard that the newer forged rods and pistons are lighter than the old and would be ok on a re balance anyway without the cost of adding mallory metal ?????
true or false

I have two real 340 Cranks Std $150. but shipping would be a fortune!
GTX JOHN - what part of the world are you in? I'm in Northern Virginia and might interested in a road trip and exchanging those funds for a 340 crank...:)

About where are you in Michigan and are you in a hurry?
I’m in cheboygan , zip 49721. Not in a big hurry. Hopefully in the next 3-4 weeks. I have a cast crank I can use if I have to, Was hoping to rebuild with forged so I don’t have to weight flywheel.

thought older 340/318 where INTERNALY balanced thus neutral balanced fly wheel ???e

any one have comparison pics of a steel 318 and the internally balanced 340 forged crank ?? mainly the counter weight and drilling mentioned in post #5 difference ??

I may have a poly 318 honey hole !!!! advailable

Drilled Counter Weights on 340 are ONLY difference in the cranks

Great story there GTX JOHN!

I am GtxJon in the UK lol. (now polyjohn)
I also have a 71 GTX and a 69 Charger 500 4-speed out of California.
I bought the C500 off a good friend of mine in San Fernando Valley.
He also knew Big Willie and was with him a few years back at a sign in session in the Valley.
I had a real nice 78 Plymouth Volare wagon that I was gonna race too, but rust got to her real bad!
Just gonna race the 71 Gtx now in UK Superstocks next year (I hope)...

Stay safe and stay sane from Limey GtxJon UK

Back to 340 crankshafts.
I am putting together a 1972 340 (cast crank) engine and have a few steel cranks.
Two from 318 poly engines and one from a 1966 318.
My other oddball 'steel crank' is from a 1968 340 and it doesn't fit in the 1972 block?
The crank bearing flanges hit on the bearing supports.
I took it out of a 1968 340 block to fit a stroker kit so I really bemused by this???
