73 Duster....milkshake ****

-
Cleaned the hell out of the deck on the block......washed the milkshake down the pan...and out ....
Had a small change in plans......the SM heads probably wont be done at the machine shop for another 2 weeks....watch them call me on monday....lol

I have a set of Eddy head with very little run time on them....made about a dozen passes with them...I can see i changed out valve seals..and I set the spring height back then...
Spend some time getting the old intake gasket off...and cleaned the hell out of them.....and they are going to be used...

Got the eddy heads on ...torqued....got the tti headers on...pushrods...and stock rockers back in place...

Was going to use Eddy performer rpm that was on the heads because of the heat cross over...but the eddy heads have no manifold heat....or I upgraded to the Eddy Air gap...and it is just sitting on heads for photo shoot...

probably wont get it done until the middle of the week....as I gotta go take a trip on Monday....and need to pack some stuff tomorrow.....

Your AVS is a good everyday carb....I just grew up with Holley carbs....I have a **** load of parts for them........In fact that yellow Duster had an Eddy AFB on it for many years...I aint going to say I go both ways.....lol

If you want to try one...I have several holleys....double pumper or vacumm secondary....check with me later in the week....if you dont have any appointments...

Monday I am going Duster hunting....

I will take you up on that. I am pretty sure I have a couple of free morning, if not I'll cancel an appointment :D

Running and sound good....Change the oil in morning one more time...plus fix a leaking thermostat housing...Done

Nooo!!! Not fair... Don't make it faster!

Ported heads? Me? **** at this rate with bending/ breaking burrs left and right my heads will never be ported... ill of spent as much in burrs as it would cost to just buy some speedmaster AL heads...

I think you should drop one of the "spare" engines in it  if you do decide to make it faster... or I know another car that will be your new engine tester... its kind of like an engine stand since it doesn't go anywhere right now...

Ever bit that bent i would shorten to the straight of the shank. All were usable.
You can't spin that much, that far out on a chuck as you now know. Lol.
I did it twice, 2nd time because i forgot what happened the 1st time.

@MOPAROFFICIAL thats what I did and yes they are all still usable.

I'm excited to see the new and improved Duster, and how it does with the new heads. @70aarcuda driving to lunch next time and I'll buy :steering:

It was holley carb day...I have been having problems with that 750....the throttle was sticking....idles 1200 rpm....hit the gas...then it idles down to 850,,,,disconnected throttle cable..does the same thing...I push of the throttle lever and you can see it move back...got double springs on it...

after spraying it with brake cleaner....same crap...so I took carb off....flipped it over...and my god...the bottom of the throttle blades looked like crap.....

they were corroded from the gas...gummred up....look like rust...the throttle bores themselves had crap in them....so after an hour of cleaning with fine sand paper...steel wool...and brake cleaner...they look cleaner then new...

but the carb back together then back on the engine....idles like a kitten now....no sticky throttle...I guess the old car needs to run more then once or twice a year

yesterday the thermostat housing leaked on the backside of it...today the front side leaked...LOL....ok...tear apart...clean it all again...put a thicker bead of RTV....

next I have a puddle of oil under the car now....only two places it could be coming from....the oil filter or mechanical sending unit....it was sending up...pinched the copper tubing...fixed...

And I changed the oil again.........I think this is a wrap......done...

Crossing my fingers for you! 3 oil changes in 2 weeks and less than 5 miles driven... thats a lotta oil.

Had some moisture still in the valve covers ...and in the dipstick tube....got it all cleaned up...oil is cheap...

After draining the oil yesterday....looks like all the milkshake is gone...

got the thermostat leak done....this time I let the RTV set up over night.....

that dam oil pressure fitting is giving a fit....tighten it...i watch is it does not leak...drive it ..it leaks...Twice now...

So I ordered a AN 4 steel braided line with fitting on it....that will fix that....

And then I dam near wrecked the car on a empty road ...during a burn out...frying the tires in 1st...hit 2nd...*** end started swerving ....lost control and ended up in the desert...LOL...no harm no foul....scared me though...

More than likely you have cracked the block at the oil pressure sender as it is a pipe thread(tapered) and when you tighten them too tight it will crack the block. Mine was cracked and leaking when it gets hot and I had to clean and file the crack and put JB weld in it and it does not leak now. Oil leaks can be hard to find as they can start somewhere else from were they are noticeable. My engine had a persistent leak that I thought was around the filter area but found it to be the rocker covers leaking and running down the back of the engine. The alloy covers foul on the inlet manifold runners and have to be clearanced so they pull down on the gaskets properly

Dont think a brass fitting is going to crack a cast iron block....LOL
Thanks But I have it taken care of......

At least you got to put it back together, I had that happen with a 360 but it was due to a cracked cylinder. Kept getting pinging because it had too much cylinder pressure (long story, mismatched combo), after 25k miles finally had a ring butt ends and pop off a chunk of piston which I'm assuming briefly lodged between the piston and head on the way up and smacked the piston sideways into the cylinder.

Blew steam clouds out the exhaust and made a helluva racket but still ran and kinda still had some balls too lol. The oil was fairly clean before and so much coolant got mixed in it looked like a vanilla milkshake instead of chocolate lmao.

The short block in the car is a 91 360 roller block ...it was a MP factory short block that came from Cummings....Some guy down the street from me had it in his garage for years..Gave up on the project and put the short block on Craigslist...This was around 2010....He had added oil pan and oil pump/pickup....dont remember if it had a truck or car pan..Got the short block...engine stand and a Holley 750 dp carb all for 700 bucks...

This was marketed as a low compression MP short block as the SP 116 hcp pistons are down in the bore around 045....so with the eddy heads it now is 9,75 compression......Not sure how many miles are on it...but probably less then 10k....
It came with a MP 508 camshaft....I removed that and installed a Com XE268H.........The block is .020....So now with the AN line ...the oil leak will be fixed in the morning...
