What oil pump drives for magnum engines.

-
I used the stock one, with no issues on my mag.

I used an LA drive in my Magnum, but it's just a Melling stock replacement. Does your cam gear need a bronze or anything like that? If not, I would think a stock one would work.

I’m using a .670 lift Racer Brown roller cam but the cam is cast steel (not cast iron) and not normal billet for a roller cam. Trying to stay away from a bronze gear if possible. Jim recommended one for a magnum engine (hydraulic roller)

ran several hydraulic roller cams in the last years, everytime made from a cast core.....then they are compatible to the stock oil pump drive. So in your case a stock replacement should be fine.

I run the bronze gear with a hardened tip, I think I got it from Mancini. I run a Comp custom grind solid roller cam.

Are aftermarket hydraulic roller cams cast iron or cast steel?

you can get both. i used comp and lunati up til now, the shelf HR cams both do have a cast core. I know from comp that you can have a SADI core for a custom grind (copper colour, machined surfaces between the lobes), or the more simple cast core (black colour, non machined surfaces between the lobes). I got both in my stash.

Just get the heavy duty pump drive. The one that has a radius and not a square cut on it. I just bought one from Summit for like 75 bucks or something.

What oil pump drive are you guys using with hydraulic roller cam 360 (408) engines.

Just treat it exactly like you would an LA small block. Use the same selections.

A cast iron cam, or one with a cast iron gear specifically called out, can use any standard gear intermediate shaft. I use the Mopar Performance version just because they were easy to get.
A cast steel camshaft or billet camshaft should use the bronze gear or the Crane treated gear.

Basically the same info you already know. Don't let the Magnum version of the engine change your opinion on this. No good gears specific to a Magnum are currently available, but LA versions are the same within these guidelines.

I am using mostly Howards and Hughes engines camshaft because they specify clearly that I can use the standard gear. Supposedly Comp camshafts can be ordered specifically with a cast core but their quality and support turned me off of them so I won't try those.
