1969 Barracuda Formula S NOS Tachometer

NOS sells, no matter what. I agree I could be better off putting the $$ into something else. For me right now my psychosis is door latches lol.
I put an exact example of the OP's tach $650 listed on here.
Agree to disagree, everyone's at a different stage in their builds, so priorities are all different. Theres a member on here paying ridiculous $$ for NOS duster parts.

NOS is only such in the original packaging and or labels applied!

You are right, NOS sells.

But this part needs to look the same and have the box like the one advertised for $650, to get same money.

two different things being talked about here:

1) what someone will pay for it

2) whether the person buyer it made a poor choice.

Thing is, #2 is of no concern to this seller.

I know plenty of people who sold NOS parts for a car they were restoring. They knew they could make the other parts look and function as good or better than the NOS part. OR the incremental improvement of the NOS part did not outweigh the profit put toward overall execution of their own restoration.

List it for $500 it it sell great if not then you have your answer.
AMEN. If it is listed for $500, and a few months later you are forced to take $250 for it, THAT is what it was worth. I do wish you good luck.

Oh BOY......... LOL
I decided it would best be kept in its original condition in a sealed glass box. So I could just imagine and always wonder would it have quirks or would it have worked. I look for the parts we talk about and I know it's getting near impossible to find these unicorns. So that is my input. Not going to be sold.

so do you have the original box. Like in that other NOS one?

I have a tube and a box

so you have the mopar original box with the mopar sticker on it with the part number.

that probably adds $100+ to an NOS part like that. Or deducts $100+ if you don’t

No sticker with part number just a brown taped MOPAR old brown box.
Just an old piece of crap. Doesn't matter.

I have original tach in my car with a Mallory Unilite electronic distributor and tach works fine. So why do people say original tach won't work with "modern" ignition?

I'd sell separately to maximize return. There are folks out there that would pay top dollar for NOS...Not me though. I couldn't afford it. Slap a vacuum gauge or blank and sell the dash without the tach.

In today's world of made in China crap......
Anything from great USA deserves the price. That's why all our cars and parts go to Australia, Norway, Sweden, Germany because they know top quality. And most they're pay 46% tax with the fees of customs shipping. So I think anything to keep things here have to be valued higher. Not my tachometer in just saying, we're so used to making deals and getting what we want for the price we want. We're losing ground on the sales in our country. But whatever............

Exactly true!!! I just sold a full set of Mopar/Chrysler A56 road wheels mounted on tires to a guy in Germany, he didn’t try to get me down on the price, he was just super happy and grateful I would be willing to ship to him!!! So much of the china made repop stuff is junk....I have always found the original stuff sells and lots of people would rather restore a factory made in the USA Chrysler part than to support communist china and use that trash....it does matter to a lot of people.

NOS is only such in the original packaging and or labels applied!

Sorry I disagree with this.....Lots of parts lose their box or packaging over the years, if the part has never been used it’s still NOS....even if it has shelf wear or damage. Many times it’s better or easier to restore a slightly worn NOS one then finding a good original one to start with.

I’m helping a guy go through some mopar mouldings, he has dozens of them, and some don’t have a wrapper but they are mint and found them in his grandpas attack in the garage....his grandpa used to have a body shop and he also bought out an old mopar dealership from the 50’s during the 1970’s....no label or packaging makes some harder to identify but they are still NOS.

Any time I sell something I describe the part very well, if NOS and no packaging I mention that. There is almost always evidence that a part has been installed, like wether or not a mounting stud has threads cut into them like on trim moulding, where mounting clips would attach, or marks left behind by a bolt head or washer once tightened down. Having the original box does add some value but I believe it only helps a “flipper” since they want the box for reselling purposes...most people who install the part could give a crap about having the box unless they want it for mancave/garage art. In fact, there are people selling these boxes on eBay all the time, even ones that expensive or rare parts once were in, probably so if someone has that part they can put it back in the box and sell it....if that’s the case is it NOS cause it now has a box it wasn’t born with? Even NOS parts that are in their original packaging and boxes can show damage and wear, buyer just needs to look it over and use their own judgement if it suits them or not.

On a side note when my dad was restoring his 1959 dodge Sweptside truck, he needed a rare moulding made of pot metal, I located a NOS one in its box, had a small flaw but didn’t matter cause buying a more expensive NOS one was cheaper than finding a good used one without pitting in the chrome to restore, plus the chrome finish on replated stuff is more shiny than NOS stuff so he wanted it to match the rest of the restored trim and had it replated. Also, not all NOS stuff is mint, Chrysler was selling these parts for cars that were new at the time, body shop collision repairs, etc....never intended the stuff to be used on the level it is today, they were just “parts” back them and many had quality or control issues, crappy wavy paint or chrome but were “good enough” for the times.

And Canadians, we are just as guilty. We brought "this" on ourselves.
Regarding that, there was a good point a member made about cheap Chinese stuff....they have the capabilities and quality to make great consistent products, no question. It's the companies owners that are fine with substandard crap. Good luck changing that now lol
AMERICANS, DON'T WANT TO SPEND THAT'S WHY CHINA IS SELLING CRAP at America's request of being cheep.

I see there are still no links for anything for sale around $200?? None? $250? $300.
Crickets.....

I looked on eBay and couldn’t even find a “single” original used one for sale....but I did find one in a 1968 Barracuda dash, the entire dash assembly was listed as a whole for $1595

Closest I could find was the one listed here $650....but apparently that's not a good comparison

We are a Wal Mart society. Buy cheap and throw it away when it fails. Look at a lot of the tools you buy at Harbor Freight.

I agree it’ll very sell for over those numbers.

For this part, the original box will typically impact sold price. This part is not as obvious to ID that it’s NOS as other parts. These gauges are well protected and can go a lifetime without ever being removed.

the picture shown does not exactly match your $650 advertised example. Later, the OP later said he had the original mopar box. Without P/N label. The details matter.

I did show you that whole used 150 mph dash assembly that had a tach for $500-450. You even PM’d the guy about it.

Some nice parts you have, worth good money too....those uncut thumbwheel radio dash bezels bring about $200-$250 if in good shape and that’s still needing to be restored....people want the original stuff!

And those seats....did you know those little chrome medallions are not being reproduced and do not come with the new vinyl? (Maybe they have started making them in the recent years?) I sold an incomplete set of them for over $100 over 10 years ago on ebay and they were just the chrome parts, not the backing plates that go behind them, they are very hard to find!
