Hey guys, I'm in need of a stock style speedometer for a 72 Demon. Ive been looking around at the local parts stores and they keep saying they can get the upper piece or the lower piece, but never the whole cable? Now I have zero experience with speedo cables so I'm lost as to what I need to make this work. I have the stock instrument cluster with the rectangular speedometer and a 727 trans hooked to a 360. Any help or guidance in the right direction to where to find everything I need is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Check out Speedometer Solutions online. I had them make one for my Sport with a 200-4R. Custom length, heavy duty sheathing to protect from heat, Mopar dash end, Chevy trans end, and shipped the same day ordered. Less than $75.00.

The problem is year model asked for. Some early 70 models ( about 1972 ) had a thingy in the 2 piece cable line with a wire or 2 connected that had something to do with economy or emissions, I forget exactly. It has been seen and detailed in this forum before. Anyway that is where their 2 piece cable response comes from. 2 piece cable comes up again with cruise control but typical standard cable is one piece.

i'm about to change mine out too and saw that looks like i have the 2 piece cable. Figured i would have to change to a one piece. Mine (72 Demon) is also going to stock instrument gage and 727 tranny (has 1" nut connecting to the trans).

I am also confused which to get. I don't know if I need the 80" length vs the 62" from Classic Industries. Also worried that the threads may not match to the transmission. Here's what I am seeing:

Which one to get?

Call speedometer solutions, tell them what you have, get a custom cable with heat shield. Good guys to deal with.

When online listing are confusing I pull the OEM part and fully identify it and/or take it to a part store to match it up.

So a little bit frustrated cause I got the lower cable from Napa auto (Part #: BK 6151604). The connection at the trans is fine but... the end for the new cable that connects to I guess is something like cruise control is female nut and has the cable ending in a male end too.

1) is the middle module a cruise control? It has a wire coming from it
2) what are my options? Go to a full 80” cable? Speedometer solutions?
3) trust classic industries and get #3593360?

I have a big block with 727 trans

RedFish is correct about the 2 piece cable. The 1972 Demon Calif. car had the Nox emission pkg. The emissions switch is between the 2 cables. You can probably read more about it in the 1972 factory service manual. The easy solution is to remove the 2 piece cable and replace it with a 1 piece cable 3592360 which is 62 inches long. 80 inch cable found in parts stores is a universal fit for many applications and is to long for A bodies. Most of the Mopar online stores stock the 62 inch cable. If you most have the 2 piece cable,go to Ebay and enter this number 2985875. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I am going to pull the cable out from the gage to see which end connection i have. I am okay with going to a single piece cable. Just want to make sure that it will connect. I am a little worried that the 62" (#3592360 from ClassInd) is not long enough since the lower cable is 59" long and the upper cable is x.x" long.

Now I have to pull the instrument cluster out this weekend. :BangHead:

Update: I pulled the upper cable from the back of the gage. Measured full length and came to 68" long. Seemed like the lower cable was a little longer than needed. Now, do I go with the 62" length or the 80" length?

Have you searched for a 68 inch cable? 62 might work if the added connectors of a 2 piece cable added a few inches. I'm not sure what you would do with extra length of a 80 inch cable.
