I'm planning on having my tired 273 rebuilt for my 65 Dart. Anyone you would recommend in the Inland Empire / SoCal area?
Also, what should I expect to pay for a decent rebuild? Not looking for major performance upgrades necessarily. I'm going to have to sell some stuff to pay for it so budget is a concern.

We had our 318 built by Wayne's Engine Rebuilding in Riverside. Mark the owner is a great guy and they are reasonable with pricing. We did a small up grade on the cam but other than that it was a stock build and we are a year and half in and it runs amazing!

Dougan's Engine Rebuilding & Machine Shop 9072 Limonite
in Riverside but they are on the expensive side and more towards the performance.

As for price... 273 pistons are made of gold so sell some stuff.

While you are at it are you going to go for commando pistons?

Dougans in riverside no longer takes walk in work. He is contracted through a few different off road teams and that’s all he does. Sucks really because they are very good. Wayne’s in riverside I dealt with recently and was pleased with their work, prices, and turn around time. Unfortunately they apparently dropped one of my brand new aluminum heads and dinged the corner of it at the intake flange. BUT they took care of me and insisted that if a file didn’t fix it and the intake didn’t seal they would buy me a new head. That’s good service.

We do most of our engines all inclusive, so we replace everything from carb to pan...something like that could be in the 3500.00 range dyno tested and tuned. Could be a bit more, I haven't looked at 273 parts pricing in a while.

Would anyone know the difference from a B&M shift kit and a transco shift kit for a 727 torqflite. I want to rebuild my transmission with a stage 2 for street/strip ?

I would really check out IMM.

He specializes in Mopars and does lots of street driven combos.

He’s reasonable, realistic, and practical

I’d definitely give IMM some consideration. You’d have the option to have it run on the dyno when it’s completed too :)

@MiradaMegaCab that video makes me want to say the hell with my B&M 162. Let’s go in on an Aussie 671 blower manifold group buy!!

@ou812 what do you think! We’re a little over a month out, ehhh?? LOL

You don't have to spend a fortune if you don't want to to rebuild a 273 and have it last and make good power. Just build a a good 9.1 compression bottom end, which isn't hard with a 273, and spend 250-300 extra ontop of the basic reman to port the heads some . That kinda money should yield a 35cfm peak increase and by .450 lift. The 273 heads respond well with very little effort. Plenty of cams in that range too.

He still needs a place to do the machine work to block, heads, polish/grind crank, etc

Well a basic machine package runs about 900 where i go...the balance ,if necessary, is around 200-250 at another shop since the 1st one farms it out and its 100 more to boot.

I would ask Bob mazzolini where he goes up that way, otherwise its worth the 1.2hr drive to north country or indio.
