UTG -The Mighty 318

-
I had one of those .010 pistons engine's with the copper coated rod's in a 318 was hard to find rings

I had a 318 in my 78 asper rt 4/speed after putting the usual hot rod parts/intake/ duels and a small 273 solid lifter cam with 424 lift 650 holley / going down the hwy a 68 383 roadrunner pulled up and wanted to go /so we slowed down to about 30mph and nailed it well to my surprise I pulled away with no problem so i slowed down to the 55mph required at that time so he could catch up /well we pulled over and asked me if I special ordered the car with a big block / he told me how he just got his car out of the shop having it performance tune and it never ran better /so i lifted the hood and showed him the 318 /he said it must be a 360 then I told him they wouldn't sell a 360 with 4 speed that year o/d trans. then he crawled under the car to look at the 318 on the side of the block when he stood up he asked me to tune up his car because he was going to put a *** wiping on the guy who tuned his I guess those 383 were over rated like people say

He needed a better tuner.

UTG reminds me of the Red Green Show ...kind of a low buck backyard handy man. I do enjoy when he throws parts...

I buy my cars because I like the looks more than anything. My current car is a 66 GTO, just love the looks. Would not own any other Pontiac or GM car.
I have had many Mopars over the years. I love Chrysler engineering. I reckon out of the big 3, Chrys got it right the first time, more than the other two.
Plus, being the smallest of the 3, C took risks, when they didn't have the $$$ reserves of the other 2. Probably the best example of risk were the hemi engines. They paid off. Some didn't......It is a little known fact that C had disc brakes as an option on 1949 Imperials. Not two wheel either, four wheel!!! Too far ahead of their time, didn't sell well & were discontinued....

IMO, UT’s “street cred” took a big hit after that 318 build died on Nicks dyno.

The bottle rocket 318 eating two flat tappet cams didn’t help either.
That could have been used as a “teaching moment” for the channel....... but instead they just swapped to a roller.

I go along with that. It wouldda really been badass had that thing made some really good dyno pulls, lived and made great power for what he had. But oh well. lol

I don’t want a big, heavy pig of a car with a TV and all that **** in it and on it. Very few of the new cars actually run what they claim to run.

On top of that, the Gen III Hemi, the LS and the Coyote are as ugly as sin. They are so GOD awful ugly, they have to put engine covers on that crap. Just gross.

Even the lowly Flat Head Ford is a thing of beauty when it’s dressed up.

I think it's kinda cool seein big heavy pigs go fast. It takes a lot of patience and time to get there. We have a member here who is a local friend of mine who has a late 70s Grand Fury wagon that indexes in the mid 12s through the 1/8. I think it's in the 7s in the 1/8? I'm not good with those conversions, but it's QUICK for a 5300 pound wagon. Stock bore and stroke, naturally aspirated, pump gas 440 with a FULL interior ready to take a pile of friends to the ice cream store and smoke rustangs on the way and back. That's impressive, I don't care who you are and if you don't like it, turn in your Mopar card. I love stuff like that.

I’d like to see a “Non Cheap-O” build starting with replacement hi-comp slugs.

I'd like to know what my little 318 makes with the KB399 pistons. Should help it out a lot.

That’s not only impressive but very cool.

To me, that is 1000 times more impressive than a 3000 pound 10.90 car.

I'm guessing about 4 years ago, I started a 318 race, having a 318 2bbl as the base motor. It had a deduction chart for bolt-on upgrades and machining work to keep the playing field "fair" so all could play and have a chance of winning regardless of what was spent. This was a perfect chance for all the gurus to grab a 50 dollar motor and demonstrate how it's done. Those that participated did very well, and we had an 11 second true street 318 car win the event. We had fun! They let their engines do the talk'n.

If you’re doing it in the kitchen, you can use the dishwasher to clean parts...... plus, you’re closer to the snacks.

Those two things are probably what conspired against the success of the build that went up to Nicks.
it worked for 426 ohyeah he built a 9000 rpm stroker in the kitchen

Yeah it seems like that got swept under the rug and forgotten...
