We pulled this out of a ramcharger yesterday and realized it is a 340. Does anyone have an idea of what this may be out of, or do any of the numbers point towards a particular car that it was originally out of?

Some of the numbers are rough. We can read some of the numbers but not all of them. It's a 11/72 casting 340-4 on the other side.

We are holding on to it for now but wouldn't hesitate to reunite it with the car it came out of if it's still around and the owner is looking for it.

This is what we see on the front of the block... J 340 416290**

On the oil pan rail.... 3 B 204906

Any ideas on how to make the numbers stand out better?

Have some pictures attached.

Thanks, Carl

3B, so it could have come from an A or an E body.

(no B bodies for 73 at Hamtramck)

Will have to try the chalk trick. The ramcharger is my brothers. It isn't a parts vehicle but I see what parts he has and if they're for sale. I'll get back to you.
