I currently have the Centerforce dual friction clutch KDF693963 in my 72 Demon. They rate it to be 590ft-lb capable. My new 512 build is 523hp/623tq on 108 octane. Now I will be running pump gas only. So I understand those numbers will be lower. Id say I am 60% street and 40% track. Hard to say if that will vary with new build but I do plan to race as much as I can. Also, if I stick to my current kit, it looks like I can buy just a replacement disc vs the full kit again? Good idea or no?

What clutch kits are you all running?
How well does it hold up?
Your specs if you do not mind sharing? (here is your chance to puff your chest out)
How track time does it see?
Any other info you want to throw at me?

Run what you have. Ignore those stupid “torque” capability numbers. Unless you are strapping steam rollers to the rear axle and coming off the chip at 7000, you have more than enough clutch.

There rating system is about as worthless as buy a carb or cylinder heads based on flow numbers,

Maybe if I live to be a hundred and twenty years old, the clutch manufacturers will start educating their customers, rather than feeding them bullshit like that.

Now, if you wanted to set up to an adjustable clutch, that would be a different discussion.

I kind of had those same thoughts. I am planning to stick with my 275/60 Nitto drag radials. Guys with more power and faster ETs are making them work. So why can't I? I have no idea where I will be dumping the clutch. Still learning here.

For a 60/40 street/strip car, I would want more clutch disc especially with your 275 radials. That dual friction is organic on BOTH sides, full face organic on one side, organic pucks on the other. I have no doubt it can hold 590 without slipping, but when you do need to lean on it with some slip, that organic puck side can't absorb much heat energy without damage. Better S/S choice would be something like the Ram's version of dual friction, full face organic on one side and segmented metallic pucks on the other.

I would be tempted to remove the weights and try that Centerforce PP with a DF Ram disc, might hit just soft enough without shims to keep the radials stuck.
