Installing headers 73 duster 318

-
Well all i can say is sorry for the stupid post I made

Quit worrying about it, lol. Roll with the punches.

If it were me I would hang the headers from the inner fender with some wire, undo the cross link and slide it through the header and leave it unhooked on the driver side. Drop the engine in and get it lined up and loosely bolted. Once it's somewhat lined up check for fitment and any possible interference, adjust accordingly. I know when I put my headers in I had to ding the tube next to the steering column coupler as it was hitting, but that was it.. Don't forget sealant on the end bolts/studs on both sides as they are "wet" holes.

I would also buy some heat wrap and wrap the starter, especially if you are running a OEM starter to avoid heat soak, and I also put a piece of silicone high pressure hose over my starter wire to keep it protected from the heat.

Lastly keep track of the new words you create while installing them................ :D

I’ve gotten help from a few guys for a few days I dunno why I lost it prob because someone that was supposed to help me by having my car there and was good going to fix there’s they backed out on me and now I’m stranded
Let us know how it turns out for ya.........

If you look at the membership count of this site, it over 55,000 members. If each of us had only ONE year of experience, do the math. Getting drunk & posting comments is not they way to make friends & influence people. I have nothing against people who drink, I do myself, but not like I used to when I was younger. I limit my comments on the internet when partaking & give my cars a wide berth. Alcohol, frustration & anger send people down a rabbit hole they have a tough time getting back from.

Excellent post, and right on point.

hooker 5901 headers are your typical below the tie rods headers....you will need to drop the drag link ...also the number 3 header tube will block plugs 5 and 7....plug wires will need to be rerouted...or burn....lol

read the instructions....
TRUE! I forgot to mention about the steering link.

Yeah...GOOD luck with that.
Don't get offended when you see stuff like this up there. Once you put headers in an a body you will understand. lol Not directed at you just in general.
If you see your comments are a mistake , next learn from it. Most of our knowledge is learning from mistakes and by the help of our great members. Just my 2 cents.

You have to have thick skin to ask a question on here,, all i ever get,, PICTURES . Why they need a picture of everything , i haven't figures out. Anyway ,if i can't find a video of what i want, i ask a friend of mine at a garage,, i never could get thick enough skin to ask questions. This is not to criticize the people on this site, but when you have grease all over you, rolled under a car for 16 hours on a 100 degree day, or froze your coveralls to the ground working on a car, the last thing i feel is FUNNY. SO as for me i enjoy the site, and i buy things and sell things, but i quit asking questions years ago.AS Paul Harvey says,,,HAVE A GOOD DAY .

Pictures, why? We can't see it from our house, our crystal ball is broken & we fired the sight seer because SHE broke the crystal ball.

That’s because most everyone here has been in the same position, rolling on the floor in grease and **** so we may see some humor in it.

Grow up and take the ribbing. We have enough window Licker’s on here who get upset by everything. Be thankful you have a place like this where people are willing to at least try and help. If we have to inject a little rough humor in their so we can get our jollies for all the free info you get, can’t you just roll with it???

"Window lickers", I haven't heard that expression in a LOT of years. LMAO

????
What the heck does that mean? I've been around awhile and have plenty of experience with these cars. Hooker headers are only barely better than Hedman. They are poorly designed and a pisser to install.

Hell, you should see the race headers on my Demon. The first time I installed them, it was like trying to assemble a Chinese jigsaw puzzle with the instructions written in Arabic. LMAO AND, then I bought another set that were even worse.

Note to self, longtube headers on an a-body are a ***** to install and may not be worth the effort over a basically stock a-body with manifolds.

That's pretty much the way I did it with the engine out of it. The one thing I would add is that an engine leveler made the

job a whole lot easier for me. I just kept lowering the engine and trans in slowly and didn't force anything. Sometimes I had to raise it again a little and adjust the leveler. I did this by myself so maybe I was little lucky or maybe I had more patience than when I was younger. Lol

The hi-perf 340 manifolds actually flow quite well with a non-restrictive exhaust system. And they fit, too.
"Back in the day", it seems headers were made differently. I had very few issues installing long tube headers in my 340 A body. By myself, no less.

I'm pretty sure my manifolds aren't the hi-perf ones so I think TTI headers are in my future.
