Bad News About An Old Friend...

PLUS, he has covid and other health issues, not to mention I very seriously doubt he will agree to change his ways, even looking death in the face. That last one would knock him pretty much off the transplant list, not to mention the rest.
I quit booze 4 years ago in March when I was told I would die pretty quick if I kept 'insulting' my liver. Sobriety is way overrated but life trumps that.

I had a young doctor at the time, an academic fellow finishing up school. It's very rare to find a doctor you can talk to and have a chuckle with, but he was that and a really good doctor by the time he left. When times were hard for me I'd ask him what he thought of my 3-part plan B...1. stop all meds, 2. cancel all medical appts, 3. hit the pub. He'd laugh and and then describe what it would be like when the tacrolimus got out of my system, a drug with a 12-hour half life. So here I am. The only 'good' (lol) thing is most cirrhotics die from internal bleeding, which is purported to be painless or even euphoric. Throw in some strong opiates and there are worse ways to go.

Anyway I hope this guy enjoys what days he has left among the living.
