small block stroker longevity

I have heard that the trick to getting a 518 to live, is to buy a good, heavy duty purpose built converter. If you get headers coated, there is a place near Hickory, NC called Calico Coatings. They did a set of TTI's for me, and I ran them for 8 years. They looked as good the day that I sold the car, as they did the day I picked them up at Calico! They do a polished ceramic coating on the outside, and a thermal barrier coating on the inside.

First key to getting any auto trans to live is keeping it cool. Giant a/m cooler in this case. If needed the cooler will get its own electric fan to keep trans temps in line. I'll be looking for a 518 gas burner converter with a billet face and heavy duty clutch similar to the diesel version. Shift kit to stop shift delays, extra clutches, better bands, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on Calico. I'll have to try out a couple sets of headers to see if I have anything on hand that fits before doing any coating.
