I bought my 67 barracuda from a guy who bought it from Ray Barton. Ray Barton bought it from the original owner who is from California. The one plate i found in the trunk has the 67 & 68 stickers on it. I have 3 California plates. Are they worth trying to sell them ?

Black on yellow, yellow on black, or yellow on blue? There is a market, but ONLY for matched pairs. A single plate you might as well patch a floorboard with it.
California is now allowing the use of old plates again, but since they require front and rear plates, pairs are neccessary. (Oh and by the way, california dealer license plate frames have value too. I would love to get a Clay Chevrolet frame for the 55 chevy my folks bought new, that i still have.)

As stated earlier there is a market for license plate sets and for the registration sticker for the year of the car to be registered. That is part of the DMV Year of Manufacture (YOM) which allowed the 50s yellow, 60s black and 70s blue plates. And of course it would not be California, but using these plates is taxed very similar to personalized plates with a yearly bill with your registration

There is a smaller market for single plates for garage art

California changed plate size, shape, and color in 1956, to the universal size and shape now in use, with black letters on yellow background. It will have 56 stamped into it. In 1963 they flipped the colors to yellow letters on a black background. They have 63 stamped into them. Somewhere around 71, i'm not sure exactly, they switched to yellow on blue and swapped from three letters then numbers, to numbers then letters.
The black on yellow are valuable to the finned crowd, and shoebox chevys, the "black plates" are wanted by the late sixties musclecar crowd.

I hang plates on garage wall. Pick them up at flee markets.

I kept the Black plate on my car when I got it, run it on the front as I only need one plate on the rear per MN laws. I'm glad I got it, it's part of the cars history.
