77 Dodge Class C motorhome engine removal

-
Slowly working on it....got all of the driveshaft out today......got all the crossmember bolts used and several removed...,,cut the trans cooler lines...removed the linkage...starter out...
got all the bolts on the trans loose...just need to dive down and get those converter bolts...
even got the transmission jack under the trans.....

getting there

Back to the motorhome...been working on it ...off and on over the pass few day...just about ready drop trans ...then pull motor..

took the passenger seat out today...have trans jack under trans...only one trans bolt left in motor...

maybe this weekend....maybe not

Had good day ....dropped the trans to get it out of the way....will need to raise motorhome up to get it out...but hooked up chain and got it raise and I could see that it would come out the door...but i could not move the hoist with the weight on it in the dirt...so I hooked up the truck...and drug it out .....

Began tear down on it....just looking to reuse the short block with some upgrades....cylinder are .040 and look nice ...no ridge at the top...going to hone cylinder and put new rings on old pistons....probably new rod and main bearing...new timing chain......cam and lifter.....have set of rebuild heads from years gone by,....going with a eddy performer intake.......gotta get pistons and crank out tomorrow and see what i need...

Need to make a parts list.....

You may be able to use this method of engine hoisting to get that motor out of the side door. I find this very creative thinking.
Looks like the dog is wearing his mask a little bit high on the head.

Got the short block torn apart today...it was really clean inside...All the rods and mains looked good...but I am replacing them...the timing chain was a cheap one...it is getting a double roller..
I had main bearing but they were fully groove...so I am not using them on a pickup truck....but I have a set of .010 rod bearings....

so we got a seal power .040 rings coming..
head gaskets...pan gasket..rear main seal...new oil pump..brass freeze plugs,,,engine assembly lube...
Looking everything is coming out of Sparks NV except the head gaskets...Texas.....Should be able to start putting it back together on Thursday...as I think I am the last stop on the UPS route..

The block is fully cleaned painted blue .....ball honed...
tomorrow i will clean the pistons ring lands as the top are already clean...fine the camshaft....knock the dust off the cylinder heads.....and I think I have a set of chrome valve covers...

the I got to get the 318 out of the Dodge d250.....the fun continues...

Got the pistons ....timing chain cover...oil pan all cleaned. The timing chain cover and pan got painted...
Waiting on the UPS truck....as I am the last house on the route...LOL....I think am...before 9 pm it says LOL>e

Might be a change in the camshaft....the Crane might be a little more cam then I want in a 3/4 ton truck...
Going with an old Erson 208/214 ...421/449 114 LSA.....@ 110

I know I got a couple Eddy performer intakes...gotta clean one up...

Was working on assembling the 360 for the 88 D250....had the crank in...and the odd bank of pistons in the block ...and then something really odd happen...the Dentist showed up...

Justin helped me get the other 4 in ...plus we got the cam degrees in...and yes...he cleaned alot of the bolts....but you gotta start somewhere....he could of swept the floor before he left...

We got the oil pump and pan bolted on with his clean bolts.....He cleaned one.,,,,,too good cause it broke...lol

Waiting on head gaskets....suppose to be here friday.....so...probably wont button this thing up until this weekend....

Had another good day....got the heads on....lifters in...pushrods...and stock rockers all bolted on...
put an oil filter on it....and primed the engine....turning pump with speed handle i got 65 psi...
Found the Eddy performer intake I want to use....and chrome valve covers on it....
it is ready to go dancing...

going to help the dentist in morning pull a tooth.....and in the afternoon daughter and I will move 88 dodge d250 to were we can start removing the old 318..hopefully in a couple weeks I can have this truck back on the road....
the plates are not current but it is a classic vehicle plate on it...no smog required.

and i ordered a new harmonic balancer...as the old one looked terrible....,,,and a water pump.....that should be it....

My daughter and I started tearing into 88 Dodge D250 this afternoon...I actually got the old 318 running....it was out of gas...
We got everything top side removed that we needed....then we had a major thunderstorm warning with gust up to 70 mph.....the dirt was flying....can not find my hat the blew off either...
We had called it a day anyway and was hiding int he garage with doors closed with a couple cats....lol

Tomorrow ...it is the big old 4 speed ....bellhousing ...clutch ...pressure plate that needs to come off...

couple of photos of old motherhome 360 engine waiting to go in...

I made the mistake of picking up motorhome for the 440 and trans. Even with the title I could not get any scrap yard to take it. I couldn't give it away. I wound up spending an entire weekend and cutting it up into a million pieces.

Man, you work hard. No title in your name? Got a tow rope....

That means that RV carcass is the Ford dealerships' problem.

That thing looks beautiful!

Took the day off....and I was tired ...and bones ached from getting into the engine bay of that pickup truck...need a booster to reach stuff....came home and cooked me some bacon and eggs....and took a 3 hour nap....LOL

Monday we take on the tranny.....

Dam Tony, u sure have a good work ethic. Keep up the great work. I really admire u. Kim

He really does.... he's trying to not get old over there... he needs to free up an engine stand. So he can't start another build....

Daughter and I got the 318 and 4 speed out today....went pretty good...did not even have to take the hood off...
Getting the shifter off was interesting had to go to youtube to see how...

So some more clean up in engine bay......and later this week we will start to but the 360/727 into it...

.
Was that the old push the collar at the base of the lever down and turn it a quarter turn.

Looks good. Why 727 for it?

I have a kid that can not drive a stick...and besides I have the parts.....I would have to buy a new flywheel...clutch and pressure plate...throw out bearing...

the 727 needs nothing but a new filter and tranny fluid from walmart
I have several spare shifters....lol.

That's a good looking truck !

It is an old department of forestry truck....very clean..no rust....vinyl seat...dash pad all great....right at 100k miles.....guy bought it to take back to michigan...but found out what it would cost to ship...got it for a good price.

Got rid of the computer crap and installed carb...electronic ignition..headers...

the 318 has terrible oil pressure....

Have not been doing nothing note worthly......mostly small stuff....cleaning parts...cleaning engine bay....intake manifold was the terrible...especially inside ..

been waiting on small parts....fuel pump...water pump...and 360 damper....all are here now..with damper showing up today.....going to rebuild an eddy 1406 carb for it...been sitting for several years..

need daughter's old pu truck to move old 318 to buried grounds...and move 360 from garage.....so this weekend looks good...weather in the 60s....

took sometime to work on the 340 6 pac motor...only to find out that I did not have a rear main seal for it....so i gaped the rings and got them loaded on the pistons so it was not a complete waste of a day

got idea..use company truck to move old motors tomorrow....it needs to run once in awhile..lol

primed the motor one more time...this time was intend to get oil out of the rockers...after several minutes of turning the engine over...we struck oil...

So today I buttoned up the engine and got the intake manifold on.....hopefully to get it in sunday....
