I was ready to install my engine and trans but it was taking too long to find some 273 mounts to modify for the 360 thats going in my ‘65 Valiant and i knew I was going to have to fabricate some custom engine mounts. Here is the process I went thorough:

The mounts I am using are from a ‘76 Ramcharger as you can see they are too tall to fit; the trans is attached to the engine and the trans is Mounted at the crossmember.

I made a cardboard templete for the passengers side of how the new mount needs to fit

I cut the truck mount to match the templete and re-drilled the holes; it ended up being about 1.5” shorter that the truck mount. The passengers side was a straight cut to shorten it but the drivers side had to be cut at a slight angle to fit nice and flat.

Here’s the final mock up before final trimming and cleaning; and yes those are hockey pucks.

I used the hockey pucks because they are known for being really good mounts for engine swaps and will last for YEARS! Also the offset studs on the factory mounts won’t work for this; the holes line up with the truck mounts enough to fit a nice 1/2” thick bolt through!

Finally, here’s after final clean up before sanding and painting:

those pucks are 10oz practice pucks , way better than the 4oz black ones

Nice job, but I would be concerned about the insulation value due to having a single 1/2" bolt running all the way through. The motor is not "isolated".

You may want to put a metal sleeve through the puck for the bolt.

This is pretty smart! I'm doing something similar using spool mounts and 318 truck mount brackets to get a 400 in my 64 Valiant.

He can put a self locking nut and not tighten the hell out of it and they will be isolated "enough".

Good job Chris and you are a hell of a fabricator!!! That has got to be the Cleanest engine bay I've ever seen in an early A....WOW!!

This should be made a “sticky”!! There have been lots of people wanting V8 early A mounts over the years, and now there’s a way to make ‘em yourself.

Great work Chris. I agree this should be made a sticky for others to follow.

You have some good fabrications skills looking at your engine compartment. Keep the pictures coming of your build!
