Shifter/floor interference

I'm interested because it took me a long time to collect all the parts to convert my 1964 /6 to a 4 speed. I guess I'll wait until the trans is in before I weld the hump in.
The floor shift cars were converted as the cars moved down the assembly line. The hole was cut (torched?) in and hump welded on the line. Poor guy probably only had a minute to do each step and was good for +/- 1/2"
I could just hear it now, "Oh no, here comes another #@*%+! 4 speed car!"
