I bought a set of 10" front drum brakes for my '68 Barracuda to upgrade from 9", but I'm having difficulty verifying the parts are all matching and need to order brake kits and bearings. Wondering if anybody knows what the casting numbers on these parts correspond to and if they're all compatible...

So, I'm throwing my coin in the fountain-of-knowledge and hoping for a miracle ;)
Here's what I have...
  • Brake Backing Plates: both read 606 / L8
  • Spindles: both have 3402738 with one ending in 191 and the other 188
  • Hubs: one reads KH9, with the other H91042. In both cases, numbers are obscured by the studs. Both hubs are SBP hubs.
  • Brake Pads: as installed measure 2.5" in width
  • Wheel Cylinders: one read 3699927 / T12 & 3699926 / T15
That's all I know - hopefully, someone can fill in the details.

Thanks in advance!
-Chris

Pictures sure do help with that request of yours.

On the wheel cylinders, the odd number goes on the drivers side & the even number goes on the passenger side. Both should have the bleeder screws at the top.

If the backing plates you show are all together still, when you look at the numbers on the wheel cylinders, odd on driver side even on passenger side with bleeder screws at the top. Be sure to get the gaskets that go between the axle housing & the backing plates from DMT.

buy good wheel cylinders wagner/bendix the whohan bleeders are at the wrong angles and makes them hard to get a wrench on them//ask me how I know...

It looks like you are missing the auto adjusters lever.

Get your Factory service Manual. There are detailed photos that show the parts

Good call on the self adjusters, I may have some of the pieces. I'll send them to you for the cost of postage. PM me & let me know, I'll send pictures also.

If those brake SHOES measure 2 1/2" wide, they're the wrong ones. They should be 2 1/4" wide.

@hemi71x - I uploaded pictures - hopefully these are helpful to you
@Demonracer - I appreciate all the input, and offers! I'm planning on replacing all the hardware & shoes with new :)
@jazak5 & @MoparLeo - Thanks for the tips! Leo, I love your profile image!
@cudamark - Whoa, I'll have to re-measure. But, am I correct in thinking that if one shoe is 2.50", the other should be 2.25" (primary/secondary thing)?

Thanks to all!! Sorry for the delayed response :/

The width of the shoe and material should be the same whether it's the leading shoe or trailing shoe. The length of the friction material is different however.
