What Jburch said about the visible wear on ring gears will prove that time and again
So, if one feels the need to grease the teeth on the ring gear, it only makes sense to grease those that take the most abuse
(I'm sure you can see that running a piston down in the exhaust stroke puts less strain on the teeth then running a piston up on the compression stroke does)
