Shifter/floor interference

65 Barracuda, slant six, 833 4 speed. My shifter isnt centered and just barely contacts the forward edge of the hole in the floor hump in 1st gear. Its too far forward to install the boot without badly pinching it. I have the correct shifter(forget the #) and mounting plate # 2298, which I think is correct and shift rods from Brewers. Motor and trans mount line up nicely with K frame and cross member. Shift rods are good, except reverse is at the end of its adjustment.
Does anyone have any ideas about this, or another mounting plate?

OK, this may be a dumb question, but is the shifter itself adjusted correctly? There's an L shaped 1/8 inch diameter tool for this, or you can use a drill bit or bolt of the same diameter (if it will fit between the shifter and the trans tunnel). Pop the tool in, and then and only then adjust shift rod length.

If you've already done this, just disregard the above.
