Source for 273 Head Gaskets??

Where do you folks get cylinder head gaskets for a 273 that don't have a 4"+ fire ring? I used the last of my stash a few years back and now when a friend wants to rebuild his 273 I don't find anything at parts houses other than the ones for 340/360 bore.
 
I don't know of anyone who makes the original steel shim gaskets. You might get lucky with a wanted add here. 65'

Slatsixdan had a source for lots of obsolete parts...Northern Auto Parts? Aisles of lots bought out from old stealerships and tons of NOS parts still in rotting boxes. Could you get .020 shim stock and actually make a head gasket? Cut the bores to size, punch all the passages out with a knockout punch and use a wire and mallet on a piece of wood to emboss all the raised portions to set the sealing crush height? Ive seen them come off old blocks and pitched them (351C bathtub gaskets, B-RB too) but I bet you could lather them up with indian head shellac and reuse them? I dont remember if they had a seperate fire ring or not, im thinking no.

A common 318 head gasket will work on 273. If factory set the fire ring back/away at the valves, it can be set back all the way around.

If, if..... you were to attempt to make your own gaskets, use dead soft copper; "O" ring the block and happy hunting
 
Here's a original steel shim on a 273 head. .Note the bore shape. Probably why no one makes them for 273's. They still stamp out big block steel shim gaskets though.

The Magnum looks identical passage wise, just some trimming of the weird sprue up top. It would lack the LA small china wall tab but that looks to be about it.
 
MAHLE 3536SG specs at .040 with a 4.180 bore (huge I know) but they are only $15 a pop on Rock.
 
I have a pair of head gaskets that have metal rings around the bore that measure 4.015, the area around the metal is composite, the uncrushed thickness of the metal is .068. If interested in pictures, PM me your email address & I'll send pictures.

Please note on post #21, that it's only ONE head gasket. You will need to x2 for the full engine. Ask me how I know.
