It's time to buy a pair of mufflers for my street/strip 72 Demon. Car will be 90+% strip with the goal of simply being able to take it for short treks on the street if the mood is right. Note this is not my 71 Demon 340 avatar car - this 72 car is just for fun. Stroker 408, rowdy, obnoxious, "bad attitude" type of car. I'm sure some of you out there have a similar kind of car.

I haven't bought mufflers in many years so looking for input. I'm not adding a full exhaust - figure any pipes would end before the rear axle. And these mufflers/short pipes would only be installed if the car were to head out onto the street. Needs to be quieted down from open headers but only to the point of being somewhat legal. I've listened to lots of people's cars on here but would like to hear recommendations. Black Widows, Pypes, Flowmaster 40's, others ??? Again, car won't be capable of long journeys (won't get far with the small fuel cell in the trunk!) so drone is not a concern. Let's hear some input for a car like this one!!

I got pypes m80 mufflers on an x pipe, exiting just before the rear wheels...I feel like it gives the car a more modern sound

I use either dynomax bullets or car chemistry inserts, they both sound wicked. My favorite is the inserts as they do quiet it down a fair amount and it still has a natural open header sound instead of whatever flavor the muffler gives it. I have to thank YR for introducing me to car chemistry.

I'm not familiar with Car Chemistry inserts - I'll have to check them out.

Rusty - no straight pipes for me on this car!! Well, unless you call an 18" torque tube a straight pipe!

Here's the initial startup of my Cuda. 360 Magnum ,TTi Shortys,2.5" exhaust ,Flowmaster 40"s

Since you are not planning to race with the mufflers on, just wanna quiet it down for occasional street use, i wouldn't spend big money on mufflers. I would get a pair of summits two chamber flowmaster welded knockoffs, thirty bucks apiece, a couple lengths of pipe the same size as your collector(assuming 3") a couple flanges and a couple hangers. Done
A little tougher if you have 3 1/2 collectors. Either you will have to use a reducer, or find a 3 1/2 muffler. (I use a 3 1/2 aero chamber set, and a 3 1/2 flowmaster, but i bought both when they cost half what they do now, and i race through the mufflers)

Here is one recipe guaranteed to give you the sound you're looking for, 3-in out of the collector approximately 5 ft of straight pipe to flowmaster 40s followed by a 6"of 3" tailpipe with turnDowns at the rear axles. Not a great fit for dirt roads.

I have 3" collectors so no issue there. And I have those listed as possibilities- appreciate the input.

Also on my radar - you guys are great! Thx!

I have the Black Widow Race Venom mufflers and they're pretty loud even on my very mild 340 with stock non hipo manifolds.

I run my headers into about 2 ft of pipe into too long glass packs and 45'ed kicked out before the back tires with rectangular tips..
Muffles it down at idle just a bit but when you open it up it's straight pipe...

You truly are in love....:poke:......
