So in my other car group, i see a lot of eastern bloc cars with luggage racks on the tops.

Has anyone here ever used one or anything similar on a 2 door or 4 door sedan A body ??

Looks like a good way to road trip, im thinking of bolt on, lockable containers to the rack...??

Yeah, I had a Mazda 323 with a Surfboard Rack on top...
I took it off and I didn't like how it looked anymore,
So I put it back on!

Lots of Thule hard shell storage pods here, like this ....Used to see luggage racks all the time on the back trunks of Mustang 2 coupes.

My folks bought their 70 Dart new (I still have it) and they had a topper from Sears - 4 big suction cups on 2 side to side rails, straps to clips on the drip rail, a solid floor (looked like the material they make trunk spare tire boards from), and a soft top with zipper doors on both sides (had some metal stays that kept it all in shape. We traveled all over the place with that thing and it was a snap to take it off when we got home. You can choose a retro style and still look like 1970!

If you have gutters (IIRC all A bodies have them except converts) your good to go.

Ski racks etc can clamp on easy.

I have even seen ski racks that can clamp on roofs that don't have gutters.

"Back then" we used to see lots and lots of rooftop racks, both for luggage, and in winter, skis. One time, going to Spokamentro in the much-hated 54 Nash Ambassador (with the optional rear continental spare tire) I got to see a suitcase fall off of a car up ahead. Just Like Vacation!!!! I'm not sure, tho, if they were driving the Wagon Queen Family Truckster

I sure want one for Vixen, but I don't know if I'll ever find one.

Well, that's NOS and CHARGER stuff to boot. I've done business with Mitchell Mopars in the past though and have never been disappointed. An NOS trunk rack for a 68-72 Charger? Are you kiddin me? I've never in my life seen one on or off a B body. E bodies, yeah. That thing has got to be scarce. They're lookin for that one guy that has to have it for a restoration and they'll find him too.

Yep....that's stupid money when you can buy one from the link below for a fraction of the cost. Same dang thing! :realcrazy:

"Trunk mounted." Just think about that for a minute...........every time you need something from the trunk you are going to have to find two guys to help you lift the lid? Or unload the rack? No thanks

AND NOW yet another annoying story from the old days

In the late 70's--early 80's I worked for a large auto parts store, came back from lunch and here in the back lot is an A-Body with NO TRUNK LID. For some reason I stepped over and took a look. THERE WAS A FIFTH WHEEL mounted in the trunk!!!!

I was giggling about this, went back to work, waited on a phone lineman. Told him this. He told me he had worked down south and seen them ON THE ROOF

Well of course, now we have the internet..................

B/E body luggage rack was the same one as Corvette . I had a factory deck lid with rack . No PN# that I could find . Made by an oustide vendor and available as accessory .

I love luggage racks on cars . And I would use one for traveling.
I have friends with small roadsters and they refuse to install one yet complain about luggage space .
