90% of my work indo on my own - either out of stubbornness or impatience. There's very few things that can't be done by a one man band.
For bleeding brakes I've always had good luck by running a tube (clear, preferably) from the bleeder into a cup of fluid. Crack the bleeder just slightly and start pumping the brakes. Helps to mark the cup ahead of time and ensuring the cup is filling as you pump (sanity check).
Helps to pre-fill the tube with some fluid to prevent sucking air back, but it's usually not entirely needed. I rarely do it.. Speed bleeders can also be used, the tubing helps keep them from making a mess.
Has worked for me for years. I use the method on my bikes also for flushing the brakes and clutch slaves.
Also possible to cut a length of PVC or 2x4 to wedge against the seat - move the seat forward to hold the pedal down on the last pump and then go close the bleeder (I use a rubber band on the bikes).
