What Non mopar mechanic work are you doing

It won’t be near enough to build the room, I know the price of these cars, even in the best condition like this one, is probably no more than $14k, tops. And, it won’t be a room for Nana, it would be a room for Nella, with a roll in shower bathroom, currently our biggest challenge. Nana can take over Nellas room. Nana just called me about 10 minutes ago, she wants to know when I’m buying her a battery for the car, my usual call of the day!

gotcha

let me know if i can help
a got a roofer buddy who may be able to get you a deal on materials too

for the shower, at my parents house they got one, you can walk into
i hope this makes sense

but there are 3 walls and then it is open on one end, the drain sits on the open end and you walk in
i betcha Nella could roll right on in

its all tiled of course

but, it is just a shower, not a tub

Friday I got some circuit breakers in the mail. Today I tried to "finish up" the neighbor's generator which killed a breaker. "Easy Fix" NOT NOT !!!!NOT!!!!

This is a "Deere" for which "Deere" charges dearly for ANY documentation. Turns out LOLOLOLOL It's made by HOMELITE!!!

There's one tiny 4 pin connector going into the electrical panel that connects the regulator board. Molex sort of plug. One wire fell off. It will not be a fun fix

Fuel tank was bone dry I did not think much of it at first. It's a typical big plastic tank and turns out the outlet valve has vibrated loose and leaks. Not even sure if it can be fixed

The Briggs recoil is a flaming POS. I'm talking about the "bendix drive" that screws onto the crank which MUST ROTATE EVERY second that thing runs, meaning it's a "high wear" item

The bolts holding the shroud were 2x missing and one mounting hole cracked broken clear out of the shroud. The outer part of the recoil is riveted, and 2X rivets were gone (Pop rivets!!!!) so I put two machine screws/ nuts in

I did get it to run

The original problem is complicated because the owner uses only the 120V outlets and THEY ALL COME OFF one side of the "line" on a 240V generator, so only half the machine is doing all the work, and it "killed" the breaker.

So I replaced the one bad breaker and did some rewiring to split the outlets so that one is on each side of the winding.

I ain't done yet, and it will never be a "new new new in the box"

Generic photo. I replaced the one bad breaker and added one. Think of this as the generator proper being the power pole drop to your house. It is a split winding, 120/120= 220V across the two.

But this was wired with ONE 15A breaker feeding BOTH the duplex outlets.

One was a 30A which fed the 3 prong 120V which is never used. That breaker went to a 20A feeding the 220V 4 prong at far right which is ALSO never used. The remaining side went through one 20A to feed the other side of the 220V outlet, and that side is what also fed the two 120V outlets.

I added one more to the far right and did a bit of rewiring, now one outlet is on the "red" side and the other is on the "black" side.

DO NOT EVER THINK, folks, that this is "high quality" stuff just because it carries the "Deere" name. it is Homelite. And it is not built to be "fixaticated"
The outlet valve should be in a rubber bushing that split. Google a home lite fuel tank bushing and you should be able o find a replacement. If I remember Monday I will see if I have that part number cor it

That's a legitimate problem! I'm on my third manifold, and I had to buy it new, which was NOT cheap. I actually just got a pretty good deal on an intake and exhaust combo with heat riser. I bought it as a spare, because you never know!

Have you tried getting one Jet-Hot coated inside and out?

So, I work on my family's vehicles as well as some customer work now and then. I used to do more customer work when I was in college because I worked on cars for fellow class mates.

Now I have a boring office job and I've really been missing the feeling of discovery by working on non mopar, modern cars with any set of problems you can think of.

I wish I had time to do a lot of customer work, simply to become a better mechanic.

What customer work or general work are you doing with any brand of car of any year?

I have a 1994 ford ranger that has a fuel cutting out problem while driving.
Also have an 04 kia xg350 with a crank but no start problem.

What do you have going?

I took a break in college, 1970's, to work for a small rental car company in Miami, FL. They had everything there so I got to work on them all. I used to work on other peoples cars for spending money, but the last guy had to remove the perfect TQ setup and replace it with an Edelbrock. He hooked the electric fuel pump up to the PCV port and filled the hand built 360 with gas. That was the last time I did a motor for anyone but family. I only have MOPAR vehicles now. However I have been working on my 96 Neon, which is very different. I can't wait to get her back up to snuff.

Im rotating the tires on the Mommyvan. Damn, those tires look 1/2 worn compared the the backs that look new. Tire pressure sensor is flipping out so I need to find out WTF is going on. All the pressure is 40 psi (38 factory and 44 per tire manufacturer) Any way to reset the sensor without pulling the ground for 30 minutes? My OBD2 scan tool is MIA.....

Some may laugh but I get my mechanical fix at work. I have an issue with my residence where I do my personal stuff but that's about to get resolved and I will get my Duster back together.... Until then...

I took a co-worker with me and snatched this out of a shop. And I have resolved an electrical issue that led to the machine being sold to my company.... And getting ready to rig 2 other machines that coincide with it and make them all communicate with each other lol.... Yep, I can have all the fun I want right now....

2 hours later and 2 tire plugs...a 4" nail in each of the driver side tires! had to search for my compressor tire chuck. Now I'm drinking my 2nd 20oz water. Im drilling a tire with my cordless so I can get the plug in and my wife comes out, " WTH are you doing??? " At ease, Wife...I'm fixing your tires! No road hazard warranty on them......

I’ll say a neon is different. Good cars lots of snap in them fairly easy to work on. But to change out a heater core. Have to strip dashboard right out to fire wall. Not to hard but tedious. Liked the car put 460,000 before I deemed it not worth fixing any more have 2 for parts in the pile.

Mine has 235,000 miles on it now. DOHC, 5 speed, real ACR. Replaced one head gasket, tires, oil, and brakes. That's about it. It is a blast to drive.

A good friend & I are helping out a guy. He has a 61 Comet that had a worn out 302 (5 liter) in it, he bought a 347 stroker motor with a fast efi system on it to install. We are using his shop, lift, tools & everything else. We give him a list of parts & he does the leg work & side lines as a gopher. Not to mention, he is paying us to do the work.

Always liked early Comets. Ford small blocks are one of my favorite non MOPAR engines, especially the 289 K code.

One of 3 Honda 600's. working on getting #2 running.

My SLK which I swapped a 5.4L AMG V8 and a 6 speed into. very fun car! It's getting a rear sway bar and Bilstein's for the upcoming autocross season

I've been helping a friend put an old 64 International Scout 80 back on the road. Had to take it for a spin around the block for the first time today..

Right after this, it wouldn't move under its own power anymore, had to tow it back. Both front and rear axles are junk/something is broken badly.
Well at least now you know and better a couple blocks away than half way across the country.
