Pypes Performance Exhaust is happy to announce our 4th Muffler Line Option - The Turbo Pro Muffler

Pypes Exhaust Turbo Pro Mufflers feature flow control channels that eliminate drone, resonance, and flow turbulence while maintaining a steady flow of exhaust gases that result in a truly quiet performance exhaust note. The flow progression of this muffler mimics the CFM of a straight pipe without the annoying drone or resonance. Expect a quiet mellow tone with a true performance sound with the Turbo Pro Muffler. This 409 stainless steel welded case muffler is designed to withstand the output of today’s big motors and comes with Pypes’ famous lifetime warranty.

Currently available in 3 styles
  • 2.5" Offset/offset configuration (MVT10)
  • 2.5 Offset/center configuration (MVT13)
  • 3" Offset/offset configuration (MVT16)
Pypes 18" Turbo Pro Mufflers will be available in May 2021.

SMA10T - 67-74 Mopar Abody Crossmember back w/ X and Turbo Pro Muffler

Do you have any "feel" for how close in sound level these are to the original actual Corvair turbo mufflers? (I used to run these on my old Landcruiser 360 then 340 and then 318 a few years) Those had a great sound and were not obnoxiously loud

67, I can look up some numbers and make a good, educated guess later today.

67 here is my opinion after looking at data. These new ones from Pypes will have a lower tone and will produce almost exactly the same sound levels on a typical street engine-powered car with 2.5" pipes. They will idle and drive at about the same sound level but will have a smoother sound and will be less crackly. These new ones will flow around 50% more exhaust gasses under high load conditions than the typical turbocharged Corvair muffler would. They will make the engine sound more throaty and less "cacklely" than the Corvair muffler due to the sound absorbing material inside of them

Yes, correct. However, Stainless instead of aluminized. Welded case instead of crimped ends. Lifetime warranty instead of 1 year. Less expensive as well.

I just know you're not sayin all dynomaxes are aluminized. I have a couple of their Ultra Flow stainless welded mufflers out in the shop.

Correct again. Ultra flow is a completely different design than the Super Turbo. We're strictly comparing the DynoMax Super Turbo to the Pypes Turbo Pro. The Pypes Race Pro is literally identical to the DynoMax Ultra Flow. The muffler industry is very confusing!

Do these mufflers neck down inside the case or are they true to the inlet/outlet pipe size? Looks smaller inside just looking at the cutaway picture.

They do not neckdown inside. The cutaway picture is an optical illusion.

You said that right!

Don't forget that the muffler nipples are 2.5" OD so that 2.5" pipe can slide into them. The pipe inside the muffler is 2.5" ID. Hope that clarifies.

These just hit my radar, so sorry for digging this back up. That said these look like a viable option for my e body. I do have a couple of concerns though. I noticed on the 2.5" offset/center muffler, it looks like the center outlet is partially blocked by the defector as pictured in the upper circle below. Also, the lower tube in the picture just dead ends into the muffler body. It looks like the same internals of the offset/offset were used, and not truly designed specifically for the offset/center. Other then that, they look to have a lot of features going for them.

The picture that was uploaded for the offset/center version is incorrect. That is being updated right now. Here is what it is supposed to show.

Good to know, I was hoping it was some sort of prototype/preproduction picture, but you never know unless you ask. These mufflers click all the boxes for me, proven design, stainless construction, same size internal tubing, and great warranty. Unless you make something better before I get to that point in my build, these will be going on.

@ColdCaseJoe: I have a 69 Barracuda with a 340 that is modified to about 370 HP. It has 15 year old Turbo Mufflers (Dynomax I think) that I got from Advance Auto for $20 Each. The car sounds Awesome with these mufflers. Fairly loud, but not too bad, and the idle rumble is great. They are starting to rust out, and I am really concerned that I might get new mufflers that would quiet it down too much and destroy the sounds I like so much. On the other hand, I don't want it obnoxiously loud. Which of the mufflers in post #1 would you recommend?

The Turbo Pro is likely what you want. Take a listen to this sound clip to get a better feel of what to expect with this muffler:

Although I have no way of knowing how the Pontiac's motor is built, It sounded kind of quiet to me. Do you have any videos for the Race Pro or Street Pro? I looked on your website, and could not find one.

I found this clip on their site for the street Steet Pro's as part of their complete system.

If your turbo pro's are 15 years old and rusting, it's very likely they could be leaking and I would bet the sound deadening material has all but disintegrated. So our version of the TP is probably going to be quieter. The TP is our 'QUIET' muffler. If you want something with a little more sound, go with the Street Pro. Just remember that you will experience a little bit of drone at around 1800 to 2000 rpms cruising speed. You can't have everything! lol! you have to pick what is most important. :)

Looks like my last post was deleted but I was asking if the MVT16 mufflers had 3 inch inner pass tubes or are they just a 2.5" muffler with 3" ends on them? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks.
Edit: The 3" turbo pro mufflers do neck down to 2.5" internal tubes

Do you have a link to the prices on your turbo Pro for Dusters? I looked on your website and it did not list any for A body Mopars.

I have to be honest here. I had my local muffler shop install your Turbo Pro Mufflers on my 340 Duster, and while the exhust note at the rear of the car is "slightly" lower in volumn and pitch than it was with my Magaflows, the drone noise I was hoping to get rid of while driving is actually a bit worse, albeit at a slightly lower rpm range. I'm tempted to put my old mufflers back on.
