Hi everybody:

Is there any manufacturer that makes a good manual choke cable that doesn't bind. Meaning every time you want to push the choke off you have to take the air cleaner off and pull on the cable at the carb. They are the ones you buy at lordco..Pretty cheap looking.

Show us a picture or two how you have the cable mounted and attached to the carb.

You have to mount them correctly to get them not to bind. "Lay" them in without kinking or stressing, and anchor the outer jacket properly "lined up" with the cable pull. It helps once it is 'layed in" to tie the jacket to handly adjacent harness anchors, etc with zip ties

To prevent rust, BEFORE you install it, and depending on "what it was on" (tractor, 4x4, etc) I sometimes inserted the cable inside something like fuel hose or a couple layers of heat shrink, pulled the innerd's out and greased it heavily

If you do this right they will be "smooth as silk".

Treed by Del! :D

I was going to suggest making sure there are no sharp bends or twists. I've had many manual chokes and I try to get as straight a shot at the firewall and choke lever as I can. Fewer bends and twists is a good thing as is the lube idea.

What kind of carburetor is it?

Often times you could get an electric choke conversion for around 40 dollars

If it were my vehicle, that's what I would go with

Is it a 3310 vc, 4479 mechanical secondary, or one of the newer 750's?

Holley....Actually did come across a picture that may help a bit. I has a lot of bends in it :(

So on the front of the choke there should be a List # 3310-xx. The xx will be something like 1, 2, 3 & so on.

If it helps, I temporarily threw this 3310 manual choke setup on my 440. The cable case mount and lock are in line. No abrupt turns in the cable. I have no hang-up at all.
I routed the cable through the firewall on the angled face opposite the wiper motor. From there it loops down to my fan/pump switch bracket, left of the parking brake.
