Hey guys,
I just picked up a super clean ‘83 Ramcharger with its original 318 locked up. It came with a somewhat recently rebuilt 318 out of a ‘90 Ramcharger.
I haven’t torn into them yet, but plan on resealing the ‘90 while it’s out.
The ‘90 had factory EFI with an electric fuel pump, and had a mechanical fuel pump block off plate.
Do the cams in the EFI 318s have the lobe for the mechanical fuel pump?
Is there any value in a locked up 318?
Thanks

some of the TBI cams have the long snout on the cam for the fuel pump eccentric. So far the ones I've seen have had it. Some have taken them apart and found the short snout.

Small blocks do not use a lobe for the fuel pump but rather an eccentric on the front of the cam. If you’d timing cover has a provision for a fuel pump, it more than likely has the eccentric.

A locked up 318 is worth what ever the per pound of scrap is. IF someone wanted it, I’d give it to them for free. They can pick it up at hour door.

scrap iron is about .02/lb here. Hardly the effort to load it up and kick it off the tailgate. But a locked up motor has value in its heads, cam core, front end parts, etc.

That's a pretty sharp score! Is it automatic or manual? It's not been mentioned yet, and I can't stay out of rabbit holes lately, so I'll go ahead and be the first to suggest a 5.9 magnum swap.

It’s an auto right now. My long term goal for it is a big block and a Tremec TR-4050

And a flip switch for the blower- Lone Wolf McQuaid style! Just need some Texas Marshal bubblegum lights on top.

If you can free the lock up, that motor might have the 9.2:1 pistons.

If it has 302 heads, there's a market for those (and if it does, it likely is 9.2:1)

Long shot, but the block could be used as a 390/392 stroker core.

...plus it might be a roller cam block, which also means the lifters could also be used elsewhere.

I pulled the seized engine out and opened it up, it’s stamped 81, so it’s not original. It’s got open chamber “593” heads. And some aluminum pistons that look like they are standard bore.
The engine out of the ‘90 has 40 over aluminum pistons and “302” heads. It also has the fuel pump thing y’all were talking about on the front of the cam.
I think the only reason the ‘81 is seized is because it had water in the cylinders and rusted them. I’m debating on if I should try and pull the bottom end out of the seized engine or just junk it all.
