Anyone have any ideas as to what these oblong holes are from? Or ever seen anything like them before. I want to have them repaired, but before doing so would like to understand what they may be. Would appreciate any insight.

That is odd, and that they are both the exact same shape makes the mistery even more intresting.

Almost look like they were punched.

My guess is some one at one time had something mounted there, hood pins maybe.

Since the car only has 13K original miles on it, I think it was a drag-car in its past, but the location is strange is not in their "normal location". Normally the pins were more outwards, towards the fenders. To your point there are no flares on the underside; perfectly smooth.. I would hate to repair these and take away from the cars history.. It is one of those things that I just would like clarity on before I make the repair. Appreciate your time!

also , the holes look too large for hood pins

That is very weird!

They look ob longed not like hood pin locations for sure!

Those are Gueson holes. If that car was in a wreak it will show up right there in those holes, by them being deformed.

Not an AC car ever. My first thought were hood pins too, but think it has to do something with its past as a drag car. Bare bones car with vinyl floors, radio delete... just motor, trans and shell.. The holes are oblong from some type of lateral force that over "time" opened the holes without any distortion to the surrounding area. I thought maybe some type of bracing that would stiffen the frame somehow... Who knows - I'm going to fix em and make it right. Thanks everyone.

elaborate on the Gueson Hole theory, that's interesting! Googled it and jack came up.

.
There're just like the holes under the car in the subframe and body. The body shop can gage the damage to the car.
Look at a frame chart for a car.

In the aircraft industry, they're referred to a "K" holes, used as tool part holes for assembly, reference, or repair holes.
