I just bought a set of small block Edelbrock heads and are having the new Howards Cams recommended valve springs put on for the roller cam that I am using. How are the Edelbock valve seals? Should I replace them while in there, or are they pretty decent? This is a 400ish hp 408 Stroker being used for street use.

Is there a bad valve seal? All I ever dealt with were the rock hard plastic umbrella ones (end up broken bits in the oil pan) and the one set of heads with the positive seals.

Dont know that their seals are bad or junk....but every eddy head i have...the eddy seals have been replaced..

Thanks. Any recommendations of valve seals that I should go with for an 11/32" valve stem?

I only replace the seals on new Ede heads if the springs are being swapped for something that doesn’t have adequate clearance to the as supplied Ede seals.

When I bought my Edelbrock heads, my machinist recommended replacing the seals and reworking the guides.

I have had hundreds of Ede heads through my shop.
Not a one of them had “umbrella” seals.
The normal seal when they have single springs are the positive “ring and band” type.
The ones I’ve had here that had dual springs used positive steel jacketed Viton seals.

Edelbrock gave me the part number and Summit calls them Viton material and have Umbrella in their description. I am guessing that is due to lack of a better description.

It looks like the Edelbrock website calls them a "Positive (Metal Clad)" design Viton seal

The Ede 61775 heads come with dual springs for hyd roller cams....... so they should have the “metal clad” seals on them as they came from Edelbrock.

They are the Viton metal clad, which articles say Viton is better and higher heat resistance than silicon. SO I think I will keep them on there. The new Howard valve springs are installed and have good clearance.
