I staked them as I was going along with the how to on installing core plugs, I hear what you are saying that the plate covers the holes and realized this after words. Surely there has to be a reason for them.
I would endorse popping one back out and drilling a 1/16 hole in the cam thrust plate on that same side. Instant pressurized oil splattering all over the timing chain set.
