I'm excited,gettin new toy 1949 DODGE!

From what little I have read, back then the overhead valve motor was basically for the very high end expensive and foreign cars, till, like said, caddy/olds jumped in....then the flathead started to disappear.
No, Chevies and Buicks were OHV motors from way back - 1929 for Chevy, 1931 for Buick. Chevy was a six, Buick was a straight 8. Those old Chevy sixes didn't breathe very well despite the overhead valves, and had cast iron pistons, so didn't rev too well, either.
