Well I am thinking about building a 426 stroker engine with my spare 360 magnum block. I have been looking at the kit that Huges engine sells. The engine will have 13.1 compression and not sure what size yet. But would like to put in a solid roller. Will be useing my trickflow heads and my ported indy single plane intake. Carburator for now is a holley HP 800 DP. Until I can get the money to get a set of headers built, I will be useing my hooker 1-5/8. Transmission is a 904 with a 8 inch 5500 stall coan converter. 4.30 gears. The engine will be going in my 3400 pound 96 dakota sport race truck. My goal is to beable to run low tens or high 9 if I am lucky. So do you think the 426 will make enough power or am I just nuts and not waist my time? Lol

I'd be thinking 600 + HP is within easy reach. certainly high 500

I think Mike @ b3 racing engines built one that went like 621 a couple of months back..

Cool. Do you remember any of what all went into the build? I was hoping for around 650Hp. I was going to build a 5.7 stroked to a 6.4 gen 3 hemi. So far I have a set of heads and a set of 13.1 compression pistons. But I have learned gen 3 hemi stuff is lots of $$$$$ lol

Give Mike @B3RE a call... 717-497-6572, he will know for sure..

Heck , the stuff required to make one run is lots of $$$$ !

I am building that combo right now.
I have a little less stall in my converter but have 4.56 gears.
It should be together next weekend and make some test runs at the end of the month or first week in April. My only issue/ holdback is my TTI 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 step headers. I don't want to cut the fender wells to get a bigger header so its what it is.

Easily high 500s to over 600.. my 408 R3 block, Indy 360-1 heads and intake with little work at only 9.8 to 1 compression made 539 hp 502 tq. with more compression , head work and a roller cam it would be an easy 9 second piece

Cool. I look forward to hearing how it runs

What was required to get the Indy intake to work with the TF heads?
Just had to get the intake redrilled for the LA bolt pattern. My intake was cast for magnum heads. I was running this intake on my 360 magnum with EQ heads before I switched to the trickflow heads.

Your going to need a head that flows in the 320 range @.600 and a cam in the 260@.050 range to get there.

The cam i have in the 360 is a comp 550 lift solid that is 260 @ 0.50 but looks like the heads i have won't flow enough Air

yea your a little choked at a point with that volume head and header size

Are the port openings in the magnum version of the Indy intake pretty close to a normal Magnum size?

I haven’t had a regular Indy SB rectangle port manifold(360-3R) here in ages, but I recall those as having the W2 bolt spacing, along with ports that are wider than std LA heads.

I really don't remember. I sent the intake out to have it ported. The EQ heads i had were ported.

The only thing keeping it from a low 10 would be the 1 5/8 small headers. If you put a 1 7/8 header on it, you would be there for sure.

For what its worth, my 408 with ported Edelbrocks (293@0.600), 264/268 @0.05 flat tappet cam, 13:1 compression, e85, and a slower/heavier 727 transmission is running 10.1 @ 3250lbs.

Yeah. I have a couple things holding it back a little.
Small headers, 3" exhaust and mufflers, no hood scoop and 3450 lbs with driver.
