Hey guys it’s been a little since my daughter and I worked on her car, today was nice so we replaced some heater lines and cleaned up the engine bay. We are going to try to attack the headliner next before we get to the seats. So I’ve done some reading and it seems like the front and rear glass should really come out, we were trying to keep the cost as low as possible as I would like her to try to pay for as much of it as she can on her own. So when we got the car the back portion of the headliner was gone with just fiberglass above kinda up kinda hanging the front is mostly intact with a few tears. So first question should/does the glass need to come out. second what would be more human friendly than Fiberglas maybe ajuke of some sort and how thick I was thinking maybe 1/2”? Third can anyone verify how many bows should be in her car there are currently 4,the car is a 1972 Dodge Dart custom 4 dr. And lastly does any insulation or cardboard/ thin wood go over the sails in the back or does the fabric just get glued around the edges right over the holes. Thanks so much you guys for any help because some of the headliner is already out so I can’t see how it was done.

I've done headliner a couple of times. Both times the windows were installed. We used some kind of pillow batting that we found at a fabric store for insulation. I doubt I'll ever have to do headliner again, though...

Get some DynaMat and Dynaliner or something similar that has a peel-off self adhesive backing and stick it to the sheet metal (see pics below). I believe that the windshield rubber seal front and back covers the hooks for the headliner material around the edges, I'll check tomorrow.

Make sure you cut the bow pockets at an angle upwards otherwise they bunch and look terrible. I used a lot of clothes pins and did one panel at a time. Put screws in all the holes so they are easy to locate. Visors, light, mirror. Then make a little slit on the head with a razor and slip the fabric over. I used contact cement on the edges

Thanks a lot for all the tips so far that would be great not to have to take the glass out. Also I hope someone with a four door could verify if it’s 4 or 5 bows I hope I’m not missing one

So there is three in the front one being right on the seam of the fiberglass and the old green top than the last one visible on the fiberglass I’m just curious if there should be one in the middle of those

If you blow the pic up just forward of the back bow is a little pocket with three holes I thought one might go in there but that would be close to the back one

72s don't have the clip on pockets, the bows are bent at the end and fit into holes in the structure right?

Yes I think they are just sprung into the holes ,looks like 3 little holes on each side for each bow which makes me think I’m missing that one in the pic. Just not sure why they would have just taken the one out
